The star attraction when you come to see Oaks Christian play in 2025 and for the past several years Young has generated plenty of buzz this spring already with the strong start he is off to for the Lions. An imposing 6’ 5” RHH who is carefully pitched to by nearly every arm who takes the mound against him he has shown well on his swing decisions and with continually improving contact rates allowing him to get to his impressive power more consistently. While the results were not electric, the process for Young at the plate was really strong against Moorpark and one of the stronger in person looks I’ve had at him over the past two years. In the first trip to the dish Young didn’t get anything close to the zone to hit and took a walk. In his second trip to the plate he got to a 2-2 count (fouling off a FB away / CHG down) then capitalized on a ball up in the zone to drill a deep drive to CF that the Moorpark CF robbed with a leaping catch right at the fence in the deepest part of the park. On the third trip to the plate he adjusted after missing an early CHG to ambush another CHG left out over the plate which he just missed leaving the park to LF on with a towering F-7 (ball stayed in the air for nearly seven full seconds) and then in his last at bat he was intentionally walked (represented the tying run in the bottom of the seventh). In addition to his solid day at the dish Young showed well on his lone defensive play of the day ranging smoothly to his glove side for a two hopper up the middle that he fielded in rhythm with ease and delivered a chest high strike to the 1B for the out.
2025 SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA MLK WEEKEND SCOUT NOTEBOOK: At six foot five and a plus runner, Young started at shortstop in game one and was the designated hitter in game two. The bat broke out for Young in the second game vs Santiago as he smashed two opposite field home runs displaying his strong projection as a run producer. The senior is a physical infielder with a cannon of an arm. Fits the third base profile with plus raw power while displaying in game power & hard contact production in both games. The LSU commit has a strong draft profile and projects to do damage for a tough Oaks Christian squad.
