This was my second time seeing Brown in the past week, making an impact on both sides of the ball once again. Hitting out of the leadoff spot, the ASU commit immediately set the tone with a 5-pitch walk, leading to a two-run 1st inning for Granada. This was one of three walks Brown worked on the day, displaying a very selective approach at the plate. Brown is comfortable taking pitches, working multiple deep counts on the day, and looking for a pitch he can do damage with (much like the home run I saw him hit last week). From what I’ve seen in these two games, Brown creates good separation, has quick hands, and displays good pitch recognition. Defensively, Brown once again demonstrated great athleticism behind the dish, being quick to get out of his crouch and keep balls in the dirt in front of him. Brown showcases solid receiving skills, stealing multiple strikes on the outer third to RHH. Nailing a runner trying to advance on a ball in the dirt in the third inning, Brown shows a strong/athletic arm with good footwork and transfer ability. Overall, Brown should continue to excel near the top of Granada’s lineup and as the game manager of the pitching staff.
Brown made his impact felt on both sides of the ball in a close 4-3 win over College Park. Hitting out of the two-hole, Brown reached base three times in the victory. The ASU commit’s game started somewhat worrying, wearing a fastball up and in on his shoulder in the first. This hit by pitch seemed to have little effect though, as he led off the third inning with a solo shot, smacking a 3-1 fastball up to left-center to get Granada on the board first. After striking out looking on a borderline full-count fastball inside during his third trip up, he worked an eight-pitch walk in his fourth plate appearance. At the plate, Brown showed great separation and bat speed while also displaying great pitch recognition, working deep counts in each trip and taking tough breaking balls down and away. Defensively, Brown handled the Granada pitching staff well and showcased great athleticism behind the dish, keeping several breaking balls in front of him. At 6’ 2” and 175 pounds, Brown has a solid frame with room to add more strength as he moves up to the next level.
