Coleman is a 2024 ProCase West Alum and this was my first opportunity to see the talented CF defender and top of the order bat play live since that event. Needless to say the talent for Coleman did not disappoint as he was a one-man highlight reel all over the field. A dynamic athlete who shows an impactful run tool he knows how to utilize his athleticism to impact the result of a game. It started immediately when he was hit by the first pitch of the game and then stole second on the next pitch before waiting one more pitch to steal third base and came around to score on a SAC FLY. His next at bat he lofted a shallow fly ball to RCF which was dropped and Coleman hustling out of the box ended up on second base without a play. His next two at bats flashed the dynamic upside to his strong present bat speed and leveraged bat path when he smoked a deep drive to the LCF that narrowly missed leaving the yard and then smoked a hard line drive through the middle which the Coyotes pitcher slowed down out of self-defense as it lined past his head and then an ill-advised throw from the Coyotes INF defense after Coleman had handedly beat the ball to first base that went slightly down the RF line opened the opportunity for Coleman to demonstrate his run tool as he pushed the error into him standing on third base. Coleman then scored on a single to help push the San Dimas lead. His run tool doesn’t only impact the game on offense, but when combined with his athleticism, body control, instincts and aggressive nature in CF give him an impact defensive profile which he showed off twice with spectacular diving catches on shallow flares that generally fall for singles, but he turned into a pair of outs. With speed, athletic ability, impact in the bat and room to continue adding strength to his athletic build there is long-term power speed profile for Coleman with a CF defensive future.

Vaughn Coleman, San Dimas High (CA), 2025 Arizona State Positional Profile: OF/RHP Athletic OF who has potential to play CF while adding in impact with his RH bat. Body: 5-11, 168-pounds. Medium frame with wiry present strength Hit: RHH. Wider stance which is slightly open on the front side with hands set just above the rear shoulder with low back elbow and flatter bat angle while adding waggle in his hands. Hands push back and up into a deeper position while taking a medium to long stride forward into the launch position. The turn is aggressive with the lower 1/2 while generating good hand speed. Stays behind the baseball well with his body including some tilt in the finish to allow his bat to work uphill as he looks to drive the ball in the air from the middle to pull side of the field. Power: 95 max exit velocity, averaged 83.9 mph. 332' max distance. There is present raw power to the pull side with his uphill path generating fly ball contact. When he squares the ball up it jumps in the air off the bat. Arm: RH. OF-88 mph. Arm stroke is shorter with some quickness to the path. Gets the ball out quickly and online with accuracy to it. Defense: Solid mover who has good footwork and body control moving around the OF. Has CF defensive potential. ATH: 6.85 runner in the 60. 1.72 and 3.87 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. Solid first step who builds speed as he drives forward to cover ground well and maintains his speed well. 28.30 max vertical.
