It was my first look at the Duke commit, and he showed his dominant FB/SL mix to get hitters out and keep them off balanced. Peterson has a tall frame on the bump that works more east to west. His FB contains armside run and rises on hitters, forcing them to chase up in the zone. His FB sat around 88-90, with a high of 92 on the day. He had good fastball location, forcing hitters to swing on 1-1 counts. He excelled at spotting pitches at the knees, forcing hitters to chase the low pitch. The contact against him was weak as he produced a lot of rollover ground balls and weak pop-flys. His slider has great horizontal break, as it breaks later in the zone, making it a tough pitch to get on top of. Peterson used this pitch in a lot of even counts and when he was ahead in the count. This two pitch mix with a rising heater kept the hitter off balance, and he did a great job at attacking the zone. His final line was 3.0 IP, 2.0ks, 1 Hit, and 0 BB.
