Johnson had a brief but strong start to open Buchananβs season. Johnson went two innings, giving up only one hit, striking out two, and walking none. Johnsonβs overall mix was impressive, getting both of his strikeouts with his fastball. His fastball, sitting 84-86, was spotted well low and away to right-handed hitters and was also used as a chase pitch at the top of the zone. Johnsonβs curveball, in the 71-73 mph range, was another strong point, throwing it early in counts for called strikes. Johnson also flashed a changeup at 74-75 mph, which had good arm side run and late vertical break. Additionally, Johnson displayed athleticism at the plate and on the bases. Hitting cleanup, Johnson beat out two infield singles and mixed in a stolen base in the 7th inning. Johnson will look to build off this strong season debut, both at the plate and on the mound.
