Reaching base in all 4 trips, the sophomore Lozano showed an advanced approach at the plate out of the 5-hole in the Patterson win. Lozano would open his day by smacking a 1st pitch single back up the middle on a FB up and stealing 2nd without a throw in the next AB, later coming around to score. Lozano would follow up with back-to-back walks, working multiple deep counts and showing good strike zone recognition. Lozano’s day at the plate would end with an RBI HBP on a breaking ball at the lower back. With a controlled load and quick hands, Lozano displays good bat control and bat-to-ball skills. Lozano offers up good athleticism and instincts on the bases, adding in another SB in the bottom of the 4th after catching the Sierra pitcher napping, stealing 2nd without a pitch being thrown. Defensively, Lozano shows good range to his left and right, leading me to believe that he’s got the inside track to become Patterson’s starting SS next season.
