Cooper went 1-4 at the plate but had a huge bases clearing RBI 2B in the 7th that led to a Benicia victory. Cooper couldn’t get a rhythm going throughout the game as he was out in front of pitches and not making quality contact, but through multiple games I have seen he puts up good at bats and he made it count later in the game. He worked a 3-2 count, taking and fouling off pitches. He got a hold of a high FB, getting on plane, finding barrel driving the pitch to LCF. Cooper's fast hands allowed him to get to the pitch while staying behind his strong front side. Cooper has batted out of the 2 hole for Benicia all year long and he again displayed why he is a future top of the order bat. He consistently makes quality contact and can drive the ball gap to gap. He can get pull happy but once he settles in and gets rhythm, he takes advantage of mistake pitches and drives the ball with authority. Cooper stays grounded in his swing and attacks the baseball out in front with good barrel awareness. He plays a good 2B but can have better transfers to SS at the next level. Overall he is a reliable bat that will hit the ball gap to gap at the top part of the order.

Rowles’ DP partner for Benicia, the senior Cooper had a standout day at the plate out of the 3-hole. One of two Benicia hitters to have a multi-hit game, Getting my second look of the season at the Chico State commit, Cooper continues to demonstrate a strong offensive profile, putting up 3 QAB in the Benicia win. With a runner on in his first AB, Cooper would smack a 1-2 FB inside down the RF line for a double. The senior would follow this up by lining a full count FB up into RCF for an RBI single in the top of the 3rd. After just getting under a 1-0 FB for a fly out to CF in his third trip, Cooper’s day would end with a first pitch pop up to open up the top of the 8th. Showcasing an opposite-field/up-the-middle approach at the plate, Cooper displays good barrel control and creates consistent hard contact. A toe-tap hitter, Cooper has a slightly long swing path, but stays inside the baseball well and shows good bat speed, resulting in little swing-and-miss in his game (0 whiffs across 14 swings in the two games I’ve been to) and several opposite field hits. I’m curious how this swing path will play against higher velocity, but with a bat path that stays through the zone well, I’m confident that Cooper will make the necessary adjustments to succeed at the next level.
