A fastball with rise has a high percentage of backspin. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher fly ball percentage. Rise+ of 100 is MLB average
Wood’s day was filled with quality contact across each AB in the winning effort in the noon game of pool play. At the top of the lineup, he is the perfect makeup for a leadoff guy who provides gritty ABs and finds a way on often. His first AB he hit a ball hard at SS and reached via an E6. Later on with 2 down, he got a lower pitch that he got down to and roped into LF for a 2RBI 1B. His presence was felt all game as he capped off his performance with a ringing 2B short hopping the LF fence for a 2B at 89 EV. The athletic ability is clearly present in his game and with room to grow physically, Wood looks to be an exciting player come HS.
