Callum Birdzell, 2028, SS/UT, Cathedral: I saw Birdzell in scrimmage and for 3 at-bats in Kokomo. Our #4 ranked shortstop in the sophomore class, he performs nearly every time I get eyes on him and for that fact I am very bullish. His 6-foot-3 frame is athletic and he has ample room to add to it in the future. A 6.7 runner in the 60, I did not get a straight H-1st time on him, but got a 4.50 on a turn when he legged out a backside triple. I project him out to be at least an above average runner in the future, if not plus. I saw two hits in my looks; one pullside single and one backside XBH. He has split time between 1B, SS, and LF in my looks on him this spring. I have him profiled to stay in the middle, but he's been moved off of those positions for Cathedral as they have two seniors playing SS/2B.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder continues to look like a premier prospect for the class with the toolset trending nicely at this event. He has elevated his athleticism/strength in a noteworthy fashion, now a 6.70 runner reaching a peak exit of 96.4 mph. The strength was noticeable in the bat speed created during a familiar, smooth-paced right-handed swing that works short-to with leverage ability. He pranced around the infield with polished actions and reached 84 across the diamond while looking the part of a next-level shortstop. He reminds me a lot of Matt Mansbery at the age, an Ohio 2026 who has been a buzzy name in the past year.

The biggest winner on the underclass side of things, Birdzell showed outstanding elevations to his toolset to pair with the quality actions that jumped out at our Freshman All-State in February. His 6-foot-3, 170 pound frame looks the part of a high-end shortstop prospect and his foot speed took a loud step up at this event (6.86). His best work was done in the box, spraying liners all across the yard with his best ball struck at 94.6 mph. It is easy to project power to continue to blossom with the long-levered frame, but the control and repeatability within the operation really jumped out to me. He followed batting practice with a polished, low-pulse look on the dirt with abv avg arm strength for the age. Slam dunk follow in the class that elevated his stock in a serious fashion at this event...

Callum Birdzell is a 2028 SS/2B from Cathedral High School (IN) with a highly projectable 6-foot-3, 175-pound frame and a polished look for his age. The right-handed hitter is a smooth mover at the dish with a more linear operation and a direct path that should louden with strength gains. He recorded an 87 mph max exit velocity, 79.3 mph average, and 306’ max distance, showing early signs of impact. Defensively, Birdzell moves with easy pace, showing on-time feet, a playable transfer, and a clean arm at 76 mph, fitting the mold of a future left-side defender. He’s a 7.25 runner with a 25.2” vertical, and his combination of athleticism, length, and feel makes him a big follow in Indiana’s 2028 class.
