+ Rhodes showed excellent offseason gains at this event - trending nicely as he heads into his draft season. The 6-foot-1, loose, wiry, 185 pounder averaged 96.7 on his 4S fastball, topping out at 97 mph. The fastball comes out with life and he can sink it at 95, and the sinker properties suggest it's his best fastball. The slider played with tight, side-to-side action at 82-85, but his 88-89 kick-change was my favorite offspeed offering, falling off the table late with fade. The change is a potential plus in the bag and he rounded out a 5-pitch mix with an 88-89 cutter. Rhodes is a technician that can pitch to all quadrants. The arm speed is electric & he has some of the best control amongst the right-handed arms in the class. This Mississippi State recruit will likely have a backstop filled with scouts at his starts this spring & could continue to grab helium leading up to July.
Electric - that is the one word the comes to mind when describing Parker Rhodes. Wiry & athletic within a 6-foot-1, 175 pound frame, Rhodes tossed a well-executed bullpen with an arsenal full of swing-and-miss offerings. The fastball works with carry properties (16.6" avg IVB) from a low 3/4 slot (5'1" release height) at 93-94, touching 94.6 mph. The Xavier recruit showed outstanding command for spin, showing a firmer, tightly-spun slider at 84-85, along with a softer 81-82 mph curveball with similiar properties. The changeup has taken a real step up, working at 85-86 mph with a similar look to the fastball out of the hand. The arm action is electric - a loose, whippy sling with real arm speed, and his delivery is dynamic and full of athleticism. Look for Rhodes to continue to trend near the top of the class, with a chance to establish himself as a prep draft prospect.
