3/26/18 Spring Scout Blog: Northwood Signee.  Right-hander showcased downhill run on a fastball well commanded at the knees in his first start of the spring.  Breaking ball has some late depth.  Small, athletic frame.  Long, loose arm action.  Ground ball pitcher.  Works ahead early and often.  Owens went 5.1IP with 3 strikeouts, 3 hits, and 1 unearned run.  

6/13/17:  5-foot-10, 155 pound right-handed pitcher sat 81-83, touching 84 with the 2-seam fastball.  Possesses late sink, some arm side run on the fastball.  Ground ball pitcher.  Smooth rhythm, clean delivery.  Short, loose arm swing.  Breaking ball has some sharpness in an 11/5 shape.  Able to throw both for a strike in any count.  Undersized for a pitcher, but uses frame well.  Hits from a balanced setup with average bat speed.  Line drive approach with long plane.  Partial rotation, some use of lower half.  Defensively, hands are smooth with quick release.  Throws topped at 82 across the infield with accuracy.  

2017 Spring Scout Blog:  5-foot-10, 155 pound uncommitted junior showed why he is the Miller ace on Thursday evening.  Owens continued a strong season with another quality start, enforcing a lot of weak contact throughout 6 innings of work.  9 outs came via groundballs.  Fastball sat 80-84, throwing mainly a 2-seam with hard sink.  Commands it well to his arm side, getting under right-handed hitters hands.  Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with down action at 69-72.  Good feel for it, threw it behind in count for strike on multiple occasions.  Owens got the win over HSE with a finishing line of 6IP 3H 2R 1K 4BB.

2/19/17: 5-foot-10, 155 pound MIF/OF.  Offensively, hits from a balanced setup, loads back, small leg trigger, short stride.  Average lower half, good balance.  Average bat speed, level swing plane, line drive type hitter. Recorded a high exit velocity of 75 mph.  Defensively in the INF showcased above average hands with fluid footwork, clean exchange.  Plays through the baseball. ¾ arm action across the diamond with accuracy, above average arm strength.  Throws from the INF topped at 84 mph. Ran a 6.98 in the laser-timed 60 yard dash. .  From the OF, showcased sure hands with fluid footwork, clean exchange.  Plays through the baseball with some athleticism.  Long, loose, ¾ arm action with accuracy, above average arm strength.  Throws from the OF topped at 87 mph

6/21/16: The 5 foot 10 145 pound shortstop showcased a clean exchange with above average footwork.  Hands were average and throws were accurate.  Tyler ran a 6.88 60yd dash.  At the plate, he has a tall setup with short stride.  Tendency to dive.  Above average bat speed and produced line drives with a level at path.  Hands can get away from the body at times.  

6/7/16: 5-foot-10, 145 pounds, ran a 6.75-60. Displays above average hands defensively with fluid feet.  Exchange is clean and plays through the baseball.  78 across the diamond.  Hits from a balanced setup, smooth load back.  Stride is short, average lower half.  Good balance.  Line drive type hitter, 77 Exit velo.  On the mound works from a long, high 3/4 arm action with average arm speed. Gets to a good balance point.  Regular effort, drop and drive delivery.  Level shoulders, with good direction.  Lands square.  Fastball shows slight run at 78-80/81.  Breaking ball flashes downer type shape with gradual break at 65-67.  Changeup was 74-75 and straight. 

2/21/16: 5-foot-10, 145 pounder ran a 7.31-60. Defensively, showcased sure hands with fluid feet. Plays through the baseball well.  Has some athleticism.  Average arm strength.  At the plate hits from an athletic setup with a smooth load.  Short stride.  Partial rotation with the lower half.  Level path, gets to extension.  Line drive hitter. PITCHING- pitches from a quick, high 3/4 am action.  Regular effort with smooth rhythm in the delivery.  Good line.  Fastball straight at 77-80, touching 81.  Breaking ball has sharp break from an 11/5 shape at 65-68.  Changeup is thrown with near fastball arm speed at 73-74, flashing occasional sink. 

9/20/15: 5-foot-10, 145 pounder ran a 7.25-60 and was 77 across the infield.  Loose arm action from a high 3/4 slot with some carry.  Soft hands and fluid footwork.  Clean exchange.  Smooth actions overall.  At the plate hits from a balanced setup, back load.  Good balance.  Average bat speed with a good approach.  Showcased some rhythm in the swing; line drive hitter.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 75 mph. 

PITCHING- 5-foot-10, 145 pound righty pitches from a high ¾ slot with average arm speed.  Arm action is loose.  Good balance point in the delivery with regular effort and some rhythm.  Good direction to the plate.  Fastball was 77-78 with some run and sink action.  Breaking ball shows an 11/5 shape with gradual break at 64-66.  Changeup was straight and thrown with near fastball arm speed at 73-74.
