McDaniel impressed last summer in the NECBL All-Star Game with a strong swing in batting practice and then showcased good power in his compact, athletic 5-foot-11, 175-pound frame by hitting seven homers in the home run derby. He combines speed, power and high-level production that the data analysts love. Last spring he hit 10 home runs and stole 22 bases during a strong sophomore year and this season he’s hitting .382/.571/.724 with seven homers and 10 steals. And just as importantly he walks (33) much more than he strikes out (18). McDaniel should also benefit in the draft from the success of former Black Bear infielder Jeremy Pena who was the ALCS MVP last October for the Astros. Pena was Houston’s third round pick in 2018.
