Up to 5'11 and 170 lbs, Gregory has continued to make physical gains that have helped further elevate his advanced skill set. Offensively he uses a 'handsy' left handed stroke from his tall, upright set up. Maintains direction/alignment towards pitcher as he takes a leg lift load into forward stride. Hands shift down into hitting position and get his barrel on-plane early. Middle of the field approach with mainly line drive contact. Has showed defensive ability both in the OF and 1B. Both spots help his L/L profile and he has the ability to be a consistent defender at either spot
On the mound is where Gregory has made the biggest strides and likely will have the biggest impact. A crafty lefty who has always used a full repertoire of offerings to disrupt timing and miss barrels. His delivery is mechanically sound with clean direction and repeatable actions. He has a soft landing before aggressively finishing out front with a strong decel through release. Arm action is high and tight before getting longer at finish. His velocity has steadily crept up and allowed his secondary pitches to be even more effective. Topped at 83.2 on our look in June and continues to command the FB to all quadrants of the zone. Also mixed in a CB, CUT and CH. Has the pitchability to go to any pitch in any count and is never hesitant to pitch backwards.
LHP Calvin Gregory (Lakeridge; OR) is a 5-foot-10, 150-pound southpaw with a clean arm and a fastball up to 75 mph. Has shown advanced polish both in a bullpen setting and in game action. The left-handed swing has also added pop since his first events in 2020.
