Strong bodied athlete at 6-foot-1, 205 lbs. Frame carries strength well. Offensively, sets up tall, with upright posture in the box and direction working towards the pitcher. Hands start slightly above read shoulder with a high back elbow. Takes a short step back to load/gather as hands drift into a lower position to launch swing. Controlled forward stride that keeps weight centered. Stays tall and lets barrel get into the zone early, covering depth from the back to the front of the zone. Easy bat speed. Repeatable tempo/actions. Stays strong on front side, creating leverage and lift when he catches the ball out front. Uphill path after contact with a high finish. Defensively, profiles well to corner INF with size/strength combo. At 3B, moves well with simple, methodical footwork. Stays back and lets ball travel into his stance. Solid range of motion/mobility in lower half to work down to the ball while being a taller defender. Soft glove hand while taking ball in. Consistent exchange into a 3/4 release. Keeps momentum behind throw and works through the play. Actions should be able to stick at either corner spot.
A strong corner INF bat with the ability to lift the ball to his pull-side. Dawson keeps it simple in the box with very few moving parts. Maintains alignment towards the pitcher and uses a low leg lift to create separation. The swing has a fluid, uphill path while keeping his hands tight to the body.
