Fr. RHP Jakeb Lequia (Chippewa Falls, WI) is a new face to watch out for. Listed at 5-foot-11, 185-pounds with wide shoulders and a strong lower-half. The right-hander has a controlled leg-lift into his balance point, sinks into his back leg and rides down the mound while staying in-line, long and clean arm swing that plays into a ¾ slot with looseness. His fastball played with some life out of the hand at 87-88 mph, topping out at 89 mph with running action to his arm-side. Curveball and slider are both thrown with arm-speed and play in the mid-70s, while the curveball has more downer shape and the slider flashed sharp 10/4 movement. Changeup sat right around 75-77 mph, thrown for strikes and showing up to 13” of run.

Lequia has a strong, compact 5-foot-10, 180-pound build to go along with two-way abilities. His strength currently best presents itself on the mound where he generates a heavy, running fastball that really carries through the strike zone in the low-80s, currently. He also wields a short breaking ball and a true splitter that flashed some late drop. Offensively, Lequia’s a right-handed hitter who favors his opposite gap, presently, with some bat and hand speed. And while he’s a little raw defensively, he moves well laterally and has the arm strength to develop into a reliable third baseman.
Lequia is listed at sturdy/strong 5-foot-10 and he’s another two-way follow athlete exiting this event. Showing a hitterish look in the right-handed box from a short, direct path, and he showcased the ability to drive the ball to all fields. Defensively, he has rhythmic feet and hands in the infield and a strong arm across the infield from a slot. Lequia’s round of BP was among the day’s best, if not the standalone best, and he also managed to impress on the mound, using a projectable fastball, 80-83 mph, that features both carry and hard arm-side life to it inside the zone, and he flashed the feel to spin a quality breaking ball, 67-70.
