A fastball with hop has a flat approach angle and visually jumps through the zone. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher swing and miss average. Hop+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Sink+
A fastball with sink has low backspin and drops through the strike zone. When thrown down in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher ground ball percentage and lower launch angle. Sink+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Rise+
A fastball with rise has a high percentage of backspin. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher fly ball percentage. Rise+ of 100 is MLB average
Curveball
Hammer+
A hammer breaking ball drops vertically with velocity through the zone, or 12-to-6 movement. Hammer+ of 100 is MLB average.
Curveball
Sweep+

Gray was the big winner at Vancouver FGT. Barely 15 years old, the Cloverdale product led the event in max fastball velocity at 89.0 mph, the hardest pitch we have seen from a ‘28 in Canada to date. Ethan has taken massive developmental strides in the past 6 months, with his velocity increasing nearly 9 mph since the Lower Mainland fall invite. Gray isn’t just a one-trick pony either, the curveball and changeup are both plus for his class with the ability to land both in the zone or for chase. Ethan is one of the most exciting 28’s we have thus far and will be a strong follow moving forward.

Still green & needs polishing, but overall, Gray is one of the more interesting players in BC's 2028 class. He doesn't do anything extremely well yet, but at 6-foot-1, 165-pounds, he has the makings of a player. The swing looks fine, just a touch inconsistent, he's wiry, while his actions in the outfield show athleticism. He triggers from a tight arm slot, which should prove beneficial for his arm long-term. On the mound he lived high-70s with a bit of effort, though it'll be interesting to see how he progresses.
