PROSPECT PULSE (BC): NEXT WAVE - 2028 STANDOUTS

Jake Carriere OF / LHP / Yale Secondary School, BC / 2028

Carriere jumped onto the scene this year, showing a unique toolset and advanced feel to hit for his class. It started at the Vancouver Future Games Trials where he posted a 73% sweet spot percentage. The Abbotsford product solidified his spot as a player to watch in the the ‘28 class during a midweek Junior Premier matchup where he went 2/2 with a walk and a stolen base. Carriere would finish the year leading the Junior Premier league in batting average, hits, on base %, on base + slugging, and triples. Carriere made his name known on the national scene in the fall as one of the youngest players at the Canadian Futures Showcase, before wrapping up the campaign at the West Coast Super Sophomore Games where he posted a new max EV of 92.2 mph while showing off the hit tool in gameplay.

Ethan Gray RHP / OF / Lord Tweedsmuir , BC / 2028

Gray jumped onto the scene as one of the top 2028’s in the province after a loud performance at the Vancouver Future Games Trials where he topped out at 89 mph, the hardest fastball we’ve seen by a 2028 to date and a big jump from the Vancouver New Year Invite. There is natural arm-side movement to the changeup and feel for a high spin (~2700) two-plane breaking ball. The frame is a lean and strong 6-foot-1, 170 pounds with room to add. It’s a short arm action with a high ¾ release that creates an uncomfortable look for hitters. Still somewhat raw mechanically, look for Gray to continue to trend up heading into his first season with the Langley Blaze.

Alex Tamayo LHP / 1B / Kwantlen park secondary, BC / 2028

Tamayo put together a very respectable 2025 campaign, hitting .429 with 19 extra-base hits and 52 stolen bases as a key part in the Blue Jays National Championship team. The L/L outfielder also showed well back at the Vancouver Future Games Trials where he put up a max exit velocity of 87.2 mph with a heavy dose of line drives to the middle of the field. It’s a slightly hunched stance with a gather and go style load and hands that work directly to the ball. With the track record of in-game performance and hitterish traits in the box, we expect to see Tamayo impact the boxscore consistently during his sophomore season.

Carson Rowan LHP / 1B / Lambrick Park, BC / 2028

Another 2028 who put together a strong year playing up in the Junior Premier division. Originally known to our staff as a pitcher, it was the bat that took a jump this year, hitting .386 with only 8 strikeouts as the everyday first basemen for the eventual Junior league champions in 2025. At 6-foot-3, 180-pounds there is plenty of room to project on the Mariners southpaw who will look to contribute on both sides of the ball during his sophomore campaign.

Jake Madill OF / RHP / Wellington Secondary, BC / 2028

Madill is another left-handed hitting outfielder that made the trip down to the University of Oregon for the West Coast Super Sophomore Games. It’s a sweet left-handed stroke with a high leg lift and aggressive forward move, tight turns and good extension through the baseball. We saw flashes of power with a max exit velocity of 89.1 mph and a few barrels during gameplay. The hit tool carries the profile presently but we expect to see the athleticism and arm strength tick up as the Pirates product continues to develop physically.
