On Tuesday, June 23rd, the Prep Baseball Illinois staff hosted the South Suburban Summer ID at Ozinga Field in Crestwood, IL. 20 players participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Illinois staff.

Today, we will be providing our scouting takeaways on some of the event's top performers.

Position Players

Max Judge, INF/OF, New Trier, 2027
Currently Ranked No. 136 in IL. Physical 6-foot-1, 199-pound frame, rounded broad shoulders with a developed lower-half. The right-handed hitter took one of the louder rounds of the day, peaking at 100 mph for his EV. Mostly line-drives when he was on the barrel in his round, present bat-speed with some intent into impact. Steady defender both on the infield and in the outfield, sure-handed actions in both spots, strong arm (T82 INF, T85 OF). 7.10 runner in the 60 - has been down to a 6.99 in the past.

Tommy Gasner, 1B, Huntley, 2027
Currently ranked No. 68 in the state. 6-foot-1, 223-pound frame, present strength throughout with a muscular build, broad shoulders and back. Power profile from the left side with some natural ability to lift the baseball, 99 mph peak EV with a max distance of 383’, ball jumps off the bat with ease. Smooth defender with quality footwork around the bag at first base.

Colton Campagna, INF, Andrew, 2027
6-foot-1, 187-pound frame, athletic, trim and high waisted build with room to add strength. Athletic right-handed swing with a compact turn, easy hands with a path that works on top of the baseball, easy jump off the barrel with a peak of 96 mph, averaged 88 mph with a peak distance of 354’. Steady hands on the infield, deliberate two-handed gather that shuffles through the baseball, clean transfers. Arm plays with some life and carry across the infield, T80 mph.

Jalen Webb, OF, Homewood-Flossmoor, 2027
5-foot-8, 160-pounds, athletically put together with some proportionate strength. Impressive athlete with a 6.80 in the 60, floats around the outfield well with a quick first step. Right-handed hitter, present twitch and bat-speed, peaked at 99 mph for his EV with a 373’ max distance. Intriguing athlete to follow with some tools.

Jack Mackey, OF, Neuqua Valley, 2028
5-foot-11, 170-pound frame, athletic with a high waist. Intriguing R/R prospect with some tools, starting with a 6.71 in the 60. The right-handed hitter took a clean round of BP showcasing a flat swing with length through the zone, creating extension through impact, 92 mph peak EV.

Isaiah Martin, OF, Lane Tech, 2027
Currently ranked No. 100 in the state. 5-foot-10, 176-pounds, lean and wiry with room to add strength. Intriguing power/speed profile, has been down to a 6.69 in past looks in the 60. Twitchy right-handed swing that works from a wide base, repeatable toe-tap stride with quiet hands. Peaked at 91 mph for his EV, put the ball in the air consistently. Athletic mover in the outfield, twitchy with confident hands, peaked at 84 mph with some carry to his target.

Scott Gillen, INF/OF, Waubonsie Valley, 2027
5-foot-10, 157-pounds, athletic and trim build, room to add strength. Longer flat swing with some whip in the barrel, worked on-plane with feel to use the gaps, whole field approach in the round, 93 mph peak EV. Gillen showed a strong arm from the outfield (T87 mph), along with steady, sure-handed actions on the infield. 7.09 runner in the 60.

Jake Sellis, 1B/OF, St. Rita, 2027
6-foot, 191-pound frame, present proportionate strength throughout, rounded shoulders. Put up some impressive numbers across the board, starting with his 6.95 in the 60. Steady defender at first base with a soft two-hand gather. Attacks the baseball in the outfield with a one-handed gather, deliberate footwork through the baseball, strong arm with some life and carry through his target (T86 mph). At the plate, the right-handed hitter worked from a wide base with tight hands, repeats a simple operation, steep path, peaked at 93 mph for his EV.


Two-Ways

Riley Cook, INF/RHP, New Trier, 2028
Currently ranked No. 32 in the state. Athletic, projectable 6-foot-2, 174-pound build with more room to add on strength. The right-hander had the loudest bullpen of the event, showing a lively fastball with an effective off-speed pairing. Stretch-only delivery, moving athletically down the mound with a medium leg lift into a drop/drive lower half, working from a full arm circle with a loose ¾ release. The right-hander showcased a quality three-pitch arsenal in his pen, displaying a fastball that jumped out of the hand at 88-91 mph. He complimented it with a slider at 76-78 mph (2,300+ rpm avg), and a changeup at 79-81 mph (12.2” IVB avg; 12.8” HM avg). On the other side of the ball, the right-handed hitter showcased a clean, athletic swing that wore out the barrel middle/pull-side, averaging 89 mph and peaking at 94 mph, also peaking at 347’ for his max distance - upside swing and operation. On the infield he showcased fluid, natural actions with a confident glove, moves well and with ease laterally, crisp transfers, arm is plenty strong with an intentful release at times, T92 mph, can also play on the move and change slots.

Owen Sunderson, INF/RHP, Hinsdale Central, 2027
Currently ranked No. 143 in the state. 6-foot, 180-pounds, athletic, broad-shouldered frame with some strength present throughout. The right-hander showed some polish in his bullpen, displaying a feel for his three-pitch arsenal. Stretch-only delivery, showing a medium leg lift into drop/drive lower half with a full arm circle from a whippy ¾ release. His fastball showed life out of the hand at 83-85 mph (17.9” IVB avg). He also employed a curveball at 73-77 mph (-7.2” IVB avg), and a changeup at 75-76 mph (987 rpm avg; 9” HM avg). At the plate, the right-handed hitter worked from a balanced base with tight hands that create separation into his stride, steep path with some authority at impact, 97.3 mph peak EV, 89 mph average with a 337’ peak distance. Strong arm on the dirt (T91 mph), steady actions with some foot-speed, 6.89 runner.

Nate Dempsey, RHP/INF, Conant, 2028
6-foot, 181-pounds, lean, athletic build with room to fill on additional strength. The right-hander presented an intriguing four-pitch mix with a feel for movement on multiple pitches. Stretch-only mover, showing a high leg kick that lands in-line, working from a full arm swing with whippy, low 3/4 arm action. His fastball showed life to the arm-side at 80-83 mph (24.7” IVB max; 20.5” HM max). He paired that with a sinker at 75-76 mph (19.2” HM avg), a curveball at 68-71 mph (-6.2” HM avg), and a changeup at 72-74 mph (16.5” HM avg). On the other side of the ball, the left-handed hitter showed a steep swing with a line-drive approach, 98 mph peak EV, 90 mph average.


Pitchers

Jonah Sloane, RHP, St. Laurence, 2028
5-foot-10, 181-pound frame. Loud showing from the right-hander on the day, boasting a dynamic three-pitch mix. He’s an up-tempo mover with a higher leg-kick into into a slightly coiled balance point, drop and drive lower-half that works in-line. Clean and loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Fastball worked up to 87 mph with over 2,500 rpm at times, carry traits. High-spin slider with over 2,800 rpm at times, 72-75 mph, sharp bite and wipeout action with over 26” of sweep at times. Kills spin on his changeup in the 72-76 mph range, straight action.
