Quick Hits: 2026 Upperclass Top Prospect Games

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

New Orleans, LA - On Tuesday, June 16, 2026, the Prep Baseball Louisiana staff traveled to the University of New Orleans, to host our Upperclass Top Prospect Games, which featured over 90 players in the state's 2027 class.  Each participant went through a pro-style workout that consisted of running a laser-timed 60-yard dash with VALD Performance, defensive evaluations, and batting practice using Trackman Baseball and Blast Motion.  Each pitcher threw with Trackman Baseball running to receive all of their pitching data and metrics.  Below, we take a look at some of the top performers from Tuesday's event.

+ 2027 INF Landen Derouen (Erath HS)

Landen Derouen continued to prove why he's one of the state's most productive hitters at the Louisiana Top Prospect Games. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Erath standout was one of the biggest offensive winners of the day, showcasing present strength and bat speed while consistently finding the barrel. Derouen carried a strong batting practice round into game action, collecting three hits, including a ringing double off the left-center field wall, while also demonstrating a disciplined approach and quality strike-zone awareness. After a monster junior campaign in which he hit .510 with 27 extra-base hits, the uncommitted senior continues to show that his offensive production is no fluke—hitters hit.

+ 2027 INF Shepherd Gammon (University Lab HS)

Shepherd Gammon was one of the most toolsy performers in attendance and put his athleticism on full display throughout the day. The wiry 6-foot-2, 170-pound University Lab product showed an exciting blend of speed and power, turning in an event-best 6.51-second 60-yard dash while also posting the top exit velocity of the event at 104.4 mph. Gammon was consistently on the barrel during batting practice, averaging an impressive 97.6 mph off the bat and flashing the offensive upside that continues to draw attention from scouts. With plenty of room remaining to add strength to his frame, the uncommitted senior's stock continues to trend upward as one of Louisiana's more intriguing prospects in the 2027 class.

+ 2027 RHP Will Oliver (St. Paul's HS)

Will Oliver turned in one of the more intriguing pitching performances of the day and looks like a prospect with plenty of upside remaining. The 6-foot-3, 175-pound St. Paul's right-hander possesses a long, projectable frame with ample room to add strength, and his short, quick arm action helped produce an 85-88 mph fastball that consistently played above its velocity. Oliver showed the ability to miss barrels with the heater and flashed a quality slider at 78-81 mph when he stayed on top of the pitch, generating tight spin and late action. Still uncommitted, the senior is an arm worth monitoring closely as continued physical development could unlock another jump in his arsenal.

+ 2027 RHP Brooklyn Gremillion (Dunham HS)

Brooklyn Gremillion showcased an intriguing mix of present stuff and long-term upside during his outing at the Louisiana Top Prospect Games. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound Dunham right-hander is a smooth, athletic mover with a loose, easy arm action that allows the ball to come out cleanly. His fastball worked in the 85-89 mph range and played well thanks to its carry through the zone, highlighted by nearly 20 inches of induced vertical break. Gremillion's changeup and splitter currently stand out as his most effective secondary offerings, both showing promising deception and movement, while his breaking ball continues to develop. With his projectable frame, athleticism, and clean operation, the uncommitted senior offers plenty of upside and appears poised for continued growth.

Collin Watson emerged as one of the more notable risers on the mound, showing clear progression since our previous look. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound Jennings High School right-hander has added velocity to his arsenal, working at 87-89 mph with a fastball that featured nearly 17 inches of arm-side movement. Watson utilizes a longer arm swing and releases the ball from a lower 5.0-foot release height, creating a difficult angle for hitters and adding deception to his entire mix. He complemented the fastball with a sharp 76-77 mph slider in the 2300 rpm range and a quality 79-80 mph changeup, giving him three pitches he can turn to. Still uncommitted, Watson looks like a strong follow heading into the remainder of the summer as his stock continues to trend upward.

Jackson Dugan put together a strong all-around showing and continued to demonstrate the traits that make him a productive offensive player. The 6-foot, 170-pound Jesuit infielder consistently delivered quality at-bats, getting the barrel behind the ball early and staying on-plane through extension to produce line drives to all fields. That approach translated into game action, where he collected a pair of base hits and showed the ability to handle different pitch locations. Beyond the offensive performance, Dugan's competitiveness and high-energy style of play stood out throughout the day, as he consistently played with confidence and intensity. His combination of feel to hit, approach, and makeup should continue to make him a valuable follow in Louisiana's 2027 class.

+ 2027 RHP Cole Volion (Ouachtia Christian School)

Cole Volion provided one of the more intriguing looks on the mound and flashed the type of raw arm talent that is difficult to teach. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound Ouachita Christian right-hander features a long, lean frame with plenty of projection remaining and pairs it with a loose, whippy arm action that generates an easy 87-89 mph fastball. While his command was inconsistent at times, the life on the heater and the overall athleticism of the operation stood out. Volion also showed feel for a quality slider in the mid-to-upper 70s with above-average spin rates, while mixing in a developing changeup to round out a three-pitch mix. As he continues to refine his control and add strength to his projectable frame, the uncommitted senior has the tools to make a significant jump moving forward.

Kade Schambough turned in another solid outing and showed many of the qualities that helped him enjoy a successful spring season for Teurlings Catholic. The 6-foot-1, 160-pound right-hander works from a lower slot with a 4.5-foot release height, creating a unique look and allowing his fastball to play with significant arm-side sink and run. Schambough filled up the strike zone throughout his appearance, showcasing the pitchability and command that have become trademarks of his game. He complemented his fastball with a developing slider and changeup, giving him multiple weapons to keep hitters off balance. After posting a 7-2 record and a 1.40 ERA for the Rebels this spring, the uncommitted senior continues to prove he's a reliable arm and a worthwhile follow heading into the summer.
