Welcome to the biggest uncommitted baseball event in the country. This week, the scouting world descends on LakePoint Sports in Emerson, GA, for the highly anticipated Future Games week. While the week kicked off with the upperclassmen in the Senior Future Games (2027 grads) and features the rising stars of the Junior Future Games (2030 and 2031 grads), July 22nd through the 25th belong to the main event: the Future Games.

Bringing together the premier uncommitted Class of 2028 prospects from across the nation, the Future Games offer an unmatched platform. These elite athletes will be put through a comprehensive pro-style workout before battling it out in a three-game slate. Among the loaded rosters taking the field is Team NC, a powerhouse squad featuring the top uncommitted talent from across North Carolina.

If there was any question about the magnitude of this week, just look at the crowd behind the backstop. Last year’s event drew a staggering 450+ college coaches, and Day 1 of this year's showcase has already matched—if not exceeded—that massive turnout. The spotlight has never been brighter, and for the Class of 2028, it's time to perform.

Future Games: Team NC Opens With 3-2 Win Over Team Southeast

The Prep Baseball Future Games annually brings together the top uncommitted talent from across the country, and Team North Carolina wasted little time showing why it enters the week as one of the premier rosters in attendance. Facing a talented Team Southeast squad made up primarily of players from Florida and Georgia, Team NC opened tournament play with a hard-fought 3-2 victory on Thursday at LakePoint Sports.

In showcase format, the game concluded in the bottom of the eighth inning after Team Southeast loaded the bases before reaching the hitter limit for the inning. Team NC weathered the late push behind a collection of standout pitching performances and timely offense to secure the opening-day win.

The biggest swing of the afternoon belonged to Jacob Reynolds (2B/OF, Charlotte Christian, 2028). After showing quality at-bats throughout the contest, Reynolds launched the eventual game-winning home run over the left field wall, with the ball landing in the walkway beyond the fence at LakePoint. The long ball capped an impressive all-around performance that earned him Team NC’s Player of the Game honors. Reynolds continued to show an advanced feel for the barrel, mature strike-zone discipline, and a consistent offensive approach while also flashing premium defensive instincts at second base. He made a pair of outstanding range plays and handled a difficult pop up drifting down the right field line with ease.

Team NC’s offense consistently produced competitive at-bats against a talented pitching staff. Jesse Covington (OF/INF, Wesleyan Christian Academy, 2028) carried his impressive workout-day performance into game action, barreling two baseballs with authority. His double crashed off the center field wall before later driving another deep fly ball to nearly the same spot. Covington’s electric hands and ability to consistently get the barrel to quality velocity continue to stand out. Defensively, his elite arm strength nearly erased a runner attempting to score from third on a deep fly ball.

Trendyn Motley (OF, Pro5 Baseball Academy, 2028) continued the offensive pressure after an explosive batting practice session during pre-game. Motley adjusted to an elevated two-strike changeup for a line-drive single back through the middle and added another hard-hit ball while finishing the day 1-for-2 with a walk. Alex Hampton (1B, Marvin Ridge HS, 2028) showcased his physical strength by driving a double off the left field wall, while Yates Toney (C, Burns HS, 2028) produced two quality plate appearances, including a single back through the middle after staying through an off-speed pitch. Hudson Simmons (OF/1B, Charlotte Christian, 2028) continued to demonstrate his mature offensive approach, opening the tournament with a hard line drive to center field before grinding through another lengthy at-bat. His calm actions and confident hands also stood out defensively.

Tyler Jackson (SS, Eastern Alamance HS, 2028) displayed advanced strike-zone awareness, drawing two walks while continuing to show polished defensive actions in the middle of the infield. Jackson’s active feet, smooth rhythm through the baseball, and clean exchanges allowed him to make every routine play look easy. Troy Haynes (INF/OF, Eastern Carolina Academy, 2028) showed the advanced bat speed that has become one of his calling cards. Although one of his hardest-hit balls resulted in a double play at 99 mph off the bat, Haynes consistently showed looseness through the zone while producing another well-struck fly ball. His athleticism also allowed Team NC to confidently move him around the diamond.

The pitching staff established the tone from the opening inning and showcased the impressive depth assembled on Team NC’s roster.

Mikey Papciak (RHP, Wesleyan Christian Academy, 2028) attacked with confidence over two innings, working with a three-pitch mix highlighted by a fastball that reached 92 mph. Papciak generated four swings and misses in the strike zone with the heater while pairing it with an effective 80-81 mph changeup to finish with three strikeouts.

Sean Rodesiler (LHP, Davidson Day School, 2028) continued to elevate his prospect status with one of the most electric outings of the day. The athletic left-hander generated seven swings and misses on pitches thrown in the strike zone across two innings. His fastball featured heavy late arm-side movement at 84-88 mph, consistently forcing hitters into early swing decisions before the movement took over. The 75-77 mph sweeper tunneled exceptionally well off the fastball, creating uncomfortable swings throughout the outing. With additional velocity likely still coming, Rodesiler’s combination of athleticism, movement, and swing-and-miss ability points toward significant upside.

Following Rodesiler was another premier left-hander in Grayson Broadway (LHP, Davidson Day School, 2028). Broadway’s sink-slider combination continued to generate uncomfortable at-bats as he consistently worked at the bottom of the strike zone. His slider mirrored the fastball’s path before diving late, producing several awkward swings while allowing him to cruise through two scoreless innings. Broadway touched 89 mph during another clean appearance.

Tasked with recording the final outs, Luke Douglas (RHP, Marvin Ridge HS, 2028) capitalized on his late addition to the Team NC roster. Douglas attacked hitters with a riding fastball that worked effectively at the top of the strike zone, creating swing-and-miss opportunities while sitting 86-87 mph and touching 89.7. He also continued developing a hard downer breaking ball that projects well alongside his fastball profile as he helped secure Team NC’s opening victory.

Opening the week with a win against one of the event’s most talented regional squads, Team NC showed both the depth of its roster and the high-end talent throughout the lineup. With quality at-bats, standout defensive play, and a deep collection of arms capable of missing bats, North Carolina positioned itself well heading into the remainder of pool play.
