Prep Baseball Canada Player of the Year: SS Elliot Lascelles
July 7, 2026
The Prep Baseball Canada staff is excited to announce that '26 SS Elliot Lascelles (Toronto Mets/Yale recruit) has earned our 2026 Player of the Year award!
Our staff barred down on Lascelles as during the selection process for our 2024 Future Games team and we made it a priority to see him multiple times in game before making a decision. In those games, all he did was hit, get on base, come around to score and play high-level defense at the shortstop position. While there was nothing too loud in his game, there was no-doubt he was one of the impactful players each time he stepped on the field.
Lascelles made that Future Games team and emerged from the tournament as one of the top positional prospects in Canada's 2026 class. In his first extended stint against consistent high-level pitching, Lascelles didn't strikeout once and capped off an impressive week with a triple in the final game. The Toronto native cracked the Junior National Team that fall as an underclassmen and has done nothing his stock continued to skyrocket from there.
With impressive trips in April against minor league arms and once again in the MLB Draft League last month, earning Player of the Week honours, Lascelles has rose all the way to No. 39 in Prep Baseball Draft HQ's most recent mock draft. Lascelles, along with Prep Baseball Canada 2025 Player of the Year, Sean Duncan, are expected to be Canada's first two high school players off the board in the MLB Draft later this month.
April Trip (MiLB): 8-for-23, 3B, 3 2B, 3 RBI, 2 R, 3 BB, 2 K, 2/2 SB
June Trip (MLB Draft League): 13-for-33, 2 3B, 2B, 8 R, 7 RBI, 10 BB, 3 K, 8/8 SB, SF

Scouting Report
One of the biggest risers in Canada, Lascelles’ draft stock has skyrocketed since he jumped onto the scene in 2024 as a Canadian Future Gamer. Lascelles projects to be a top-of-the-order, leadoff type bat that gets on base and steals plenty of bases. Speedy infielder that projects to stick up the middle and could even be tested in centre field with the tools he has. In the box, he has a very simple setup with elite bat-to-ball skills and the ability to use the whole field to his advantage. The hit/run tools stand out as he continues to swing it well against all competition he faces. We have seen EVs up to 100+ mph with wood while running a 6.60 60-yard at the Super 60 in February. He is a tooled-up shortstop with good makeup and has the potential to provide value at the major league level for a lengthy period of time.
Lascelles may have flown under the radar in Canada’s class of 2026, but not anymore. Lascelles has shown all summer to be one of the country’s most all-around players and he did more of the same at the Future Games. Some of the more mature AB’s on the Canadians squad, Lascelles didn’t strike out once, and continued to flash his impressive bat-to-ball skills against some of the top arms in the US, capped off by his triple in Game 3. It's clean on the infield with a strong accurate arm across the diamond with the ability to move around. The workout numbers aren’t eye popping right now (besides his 6.68 60-time), but as he continues to fill out and get more physical, Lascelles has a chance to be really good one day.
