On May 9th, the Prep Baseball California team hosted the NorCal Rising Stars Game at Islanders Field in Lathrop, Cal. This was an invite-only event for rising stars classes (2030-2031), and gave our staff an ample look at the area’s top prospects.

Today, we will we’re taking a look at all of the positional scouting reports:

TOP POSITIONAL PROSPECTS

1. Gavin Cessna, Woodcreek High (CA), 2030
Positional Profile: C/OF Athletic, lanky, and not close to his final form. Solid fielder with a strong traits behind the plate. Balanced stance and quality bat speed that translate into quality power up the middle and pullslide.
Body: 5-10.3, 162-pounds. Lanky with strong size and long arms and legs. A lot of room to fill out, adding bulk and strength. As of now is athletic enough for both C and OF
Hit: RHH. Tall, slightly open stance. Active hands with some bat wiggle. Long and strong load. Does a quality job of getting his lower half involved. Quality bat speed. Swing gets long at times which causes some bat lag, but he does a quality job of pulling hands in on inside pitches. Overall gets quality bat whip and has a strong feel for covering the plate.
Power: 95 mph max exit velocity (87.2 avg.); 317-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. C - 78 mph. OF - 84 mph. As a C he has a quick drawback and solid arm whip. Able to put balls on a line down to 2B. As an OF he has a strong, deep windup and strong armwhip with quality energy on his throws.
Defense: 2.10-2.21 pop time range; As C he has a strong transfer of weight and power from a crouch. Pretty quick transfer of ball from glove to hand. Very clean in his movements and has a very balanced setup. As an OF he has strong setup and solid ability to get around groundballs.
Athletic Testing: 6.81 runner in the 60-yard dash; 26.30-inch max vertical jump.
