Team California Junior Future Games: Game One Recap

EMERSON, GA - The third part of the Future Games week at LakePoint, the Junior Future Games entered the game play portion of the event on Saturday evening. With players in the upcoming Fr. high school class or heading into eighth grade making up squads to represent their home states competing against each other for three competitive games.

Team California's Junior Future Game squad underwent their workout day on Thursday afternoon with several standout performances and were originally slated to face off with Team Arkansas on Friday night under the lights of LakePoint, but due to heavy rain in the Emerson region was postponed to Saturday night.

GAME THREE RECAP:

After having their opening game of the Junior Future Games delayed by nearly 24 hours, the 15-man squad from around the state of California came out energized and ready to show the next wave of high school baseball is in good hands with this group. Both sides of the game for the California squad were dominant in the 9-0 win. It was highlighted by a combined no-hitter.

On the mound: RHP Kyle Kelley from NorCal went three dominant innings of work, showing off impressive arm speed for his age with a FB that lived in the mid-80s while peaking at 87 MPH, with the makings of a potential power breaking ball in the future. Over his time on the mound, he didn't allow a ball to leave the INF, with three strikeouts, including six up and six down over his final two innings. Once Kelley departed the mound the next arm up was RHP Vinny Messick from SoCal, who lived in the low 80's with his FB and showed control of a pair of breaking balls in a top/down CB and tight SLD to the glove side that he aggressively used to go seven up and six down over two innings with five strikeouts and not one ball put in play off him to close out the combined no-hitter.

The offensive output for the California squad featured 12 of the 15 players reaching base safely while putting up nine hits on the day to pace the nine-run output. The bats of INF Dylan Hall, INF Ben Wallace, 1B Tank McCall, C/SS Mario Valle III, SS JJ Gonzalez, SS Aiden McGee-Visger, and Kelley each put up hits. Hall, Wallace, and McCall each had multiple RBI doubles.

SS Dallas Knothe and C/RHP Cooper Frost each reached base twice on the day via either a BB or a HBP.
