Elk Grove, CALIF. - Earlier last month, June 9th, the Prep Baseball California team hosted the Sac Summer ID at the Isalnders in Lathrop, Cal.
Just over 30 players made their way to Franklin High School and participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball California staff.
To start the day, all position players in attendance ran a 60-yard sprint with all split times being gathered using VALD Technologies' laser timing system. Next up was a pair of jump tests using the VALD system again, where players participated in a max vertical jump to test their power production and a 5-Hop RSI test to measure force production. Upon completion of the athletic testing portion of the day, the players went into offensive evaluations with multiple rounds of batting practice, where Trackman Technologies was in use to gather batted ball data on players in attendance. Which was then followed by defensive evaluations at their primary and secondary position (OF, C, SS, 1B) with arm strength being measured via a Stalker Radar gun and skill evaluations by our staff on hand. Once the batting practice portion of the event was completed, we shifted into the pitching portion of the day with pitchers throwing bullpens from the main mound with Trackman Technologies running to gather pitch data.
Today, we will be looking at some of the top overall performers from the event, found below. For all of the event information, please click here.
TOP PERFORMERS:
Charlie Rhodes OF / SS / San Ramon Valley High, CA / 2027Rhodes stood out immediately during the defensive workout, showing he can move around well and got to show off his strong arm. Rhodes threw it 87mph from the OF, which was an event high, he also moved into the infield and showed he can do both, he’s got quick actions and uses the one hand well. The offensive part of the workout is where Rhodes thrived, he stayed to the middle of the field, and was hitting balls well north of 100 mph. Rhodes is going into his senior year at San Ramon Valley, and is off to a hot start of the summer. Highlights: 60 YD Dash: 7.26 | Max EV: 104.7 mph | Max Distance: 381 ft | OF Velo: 87 mph | Vertical Jump: 22.0 in |
Ajay Sahi SS / 2B / Livermore High, CA / 2027Rankings StateRank: 281 / POS: 68
Sahi is a familiar face to the Prep Baseball Staff, as he’s come to a couple events over the past season. He came off a very strong JR campaign at Livermore High School where he hit 3 home runs and 18 RBIs. Sahi stands at 6’4 158.1 lbs, there is definitely a lot more to fill in the frame as he matures. His arm has gotten a lot stronger since last event, he was up to 86 mph in the infield workout. Sahi was another guy who was making a statement in BP, it was loud and a lot showed he had power to all fields, he hit multiple over the fence and showed he can still stay on line. Sahi has one more year left at Livermore, he’s one of the more under the radar shortstops still available in the ‘27 class. Highlights: Max EV: 100 mph | Max Distance: 383 ft | INF Velo: 86 mph | Vertical Jump: 23.4 in |
Mason Cole 1B / RHP / Del Oro High, CA / 2029Cole attended the NorCal Rising Stars Game as an 8th grader last spring, now standing at 6’0 190.5, he looks like the starting linebacker on the varsity football team. Cole has filled into his body and got his 60 time down to a 7.45. First base is his primary, with an option to play 3B in the future due to his athleticism. His hit tool is what stood out the most, he was lacing balls all over the field, Cole displayed a majority of his pop to the middle of the field, which was impressive to see in such a young hitter. He's only going to get stronger as time goes on, Cole could be emerging as one of the better first basemen in the NorCal area. Highlights: 60 YD Dash: 7.54 | Max EV: 100.1 mph | INF Velo: 76 mph | Vertical Jump: 23.0 in |
Cole Callison 3B / SS / Sutter High, CA / 2027The 6’4 173.5 lbs shortstop from Sutter High School came off a monster year hitting .429 with nine doubles and two HRs. Callison is a high waisted left side guy with the potential to stay there if the arm get stronger. He ran pretty good for how wiry he is, his 60 yard dash was a 7.41 and seemed to move well laterally in the infield. Callison hits the ball hard, with time, getting into his lower half, the ball will explode more off the barrel because of his large frame. Lots of projection for Callison going into his last year of high school. Highlights: 60 YD Dash: 7.41 | Max EV: 96.7 mph | Max Distance: 353 ft | | Vertical Jump: 19.0 in |
Mason Smith SS / 3B / Liberty, CA / 2029This was the first time getting to see Smith and for a freshman, he impressed everyone with his skillset and how hard he played the game. Smith will knock his 60 time down, that will come with maturity and strength, but he’s got a real shot to stick at shortstop long term. Smith threw the ball across the field 84 mph during the workout, one of the event best, and his actions were beyond his years in the infield. Smith proved he can hit, he has a middle/middle approach and stayed on the barrel all day long. Smith will be attending the West Coast Super Soph Games at the University of Oregon in September. Highlights: 60 YD Dash: 7.60 | Max EV: 93.2 mph | INF Velo: 84 mph | Vertical Jump: 19.9 in |
Joshua Schwartz C / RHP / Oakmont High, CA / 2027Schwartz attends Oakmont High School where he is heading into his Senior season, he’s got a huge frame standing at 6’3 187.6 lbs, during the 60 yard dash he ran a 7.41 with an added 22.6in vertical. The size is what’s very intriguing about Schwartz, with more reps, he can be a late bloomer who goes the juco route and will figure something out. Behind the dish, Schwartz has a cannon, throwing the ball 80 mph with a 2.00-2.10 pop time. Schwartz has tools to keep him behind the dish, it’s just a matter of time before he starts playing everyday. Highlights: 60 YD Dash: 7.41 | Max EV: 95.7 mph | C Velo: 80 mph | Vertical Jump: 22.6 in | Pop Time: 2.00-2.10 |
