The PBT Alabama Open took center stage at River Run Park in Northport, Alabama, from June 4-7, bringing together 31 teams from across the region for a competitive weekend of summer baseball. Featuring both 15U and 16/17U divisions, the event provided players with an opportunity to compete against quality opponents while continuing to build momentum heading into the heart of the summer schedule.

Over four days of action, teams battled through pool play and bracket competition, showcasing a talented collection of prospects from across Alabama and neighboring states. With Prep Baseball staff on hand throughout the event, the tournament served as an important evaluation opportunity while also highlighting many of the players who are poised for strong summers on the travel circuit. As always, River Run Park provided a tremendous setting for high-level competition, with numerous standout performances emerging throughout the weekend.

+ RHP Nolan Gillespie (AquaSox 17U National, 2027) Nolan Gillespie turned in one of the most impressive pitching performances of the weekend, dominating over four scoreless innings while striking out eight and allowing just one walk. The 2027 right-hander worked primarily off an 86-88 mph fastball that topped out at 89 mph and featured quality ride through the zone, generating plenty of swings and misses. He paired the fastball effectively with a 76-78 mph slider that consistently kept hitters off balance and complemented the heater well. Gillespie possesses a tall frame with room to continue adding strength, which suggests there may be even more velocity to come as he develops. With his current stuff, ability to miss bats, and physical projection, he is a pitcher who should continue to draw attention moving forward.


+ 1B Jackson Mullins (Valor Gold 16U, 2028) Jackson Mullins was one of the more impressive offensive performers seen throughout the weekend. The 2028 first baseman possesses a large, physical frame with plenty of room for continued strength development. The left-handed hitter showed impressive bat speed and consistently found the barrel, producing hard contact throughout multiple looks. Mullins displayed a smooth, repeatable swing from the left side and showed the ability to drive the baseball with authority. His combination of size, bat speed, and feel for the barrel makes him an intriguing young prospect with significant offensive upside moving forward.


+ OF Kolt Young (RiverDogs, 2028) turned in one of the more impressive performances of the weekend, going 2-for-3 with a pair of hard-hit barrels in Game 1. The left-handed hitter works with a short, controlled stride that gets him on time consistently, allowing him to drive the baseball to all fields. Young showed a mature approach at the top of the lineup, seeing pitches well and finding ways to get on base and into scoring position. Defensively, his versatility and instincts stood out as he made several key plays that saved runs. A high-energy player who impacted the game on both sides of the ball and looks the part of a prototypical leadoff hitter moving forward.


+ OF/MIF Tyler Robinson (AquaSox Baseball 17U National, 2027) the Georgia native was one of the most impactful players of the weekend, playing a key role in helping AquaSox capture the championship. A true utility weapon, Robinson set the tone from the leadoff spot with advanced barrel control and a disciplined approach, consistently staying within the strike zone and producing hard line-drive contact. Defensively, he showcased his versatility by making plays in center field, left field, and at second base, flashing high-level instincts and athleticism throughout the event. His speed was a constant factor, creating pressure on opposing defenses and highlighted by a steal of home in the championship game. Robinson also contributed on the mound, closing out two games with a submarine delivery and feel for a three-pitch mix. A high-energy competitor who impacts the game in every facet, Robinson was a major catalyst in AquaSox's title run.


+ 1B/RHP David Pruitt (Excel Blue Wave American Morrison, 2028) is an intriguing two-way prospect with considerable upside thanks to his long, projectable 6-foot-6 frame. The left-handed hitter consistently found the barrel throughout the weekend, showing an advanced approach and the ability to work counts until he got a pitch he could drive. Pruitt did most of his damage to the pull side, flashing present power with plenty more projection remaining as he continues to add strength. On the mound, he was equally impressive, showcasing strong fastball command and a sharp curveball that generated plenty of uncomfortable swings. The fastball has been up into the upper-80s with late life through the zone, making him a high-upside arm to follow in Georgia's 2028 class.


+ C/OF Cal Wade (USA Prime Southeast, 2029) put together one of the better offensive performances of the weekend at the Prep Baseball Alabama Open, highlighted by a 3-for-3 game that included two doubles and a single. The left-handed hitter showed an advanced ability to use the entire field, collecting hits to left, center, and right field while consistently finding the barrel. Wade gets his foot down early and operates with controlled aggression in the swing, allowing him to stay on time and drive the baseball with authority. He stays through contact well and showed a mature approach throughout the event. With a strong, physical build and additional room for development, Wade is a hitter who continues to trend in the right direction.


+ OF Malloy Yeck (Top Gun Black 15U, 2029) was one of the top offensive performers of the tournament, helping lead Top Gun Black to a championship run that saw the club go 5-1 while scoring 74 runs over four days. Yeck made an impact from the opening day, collecting an RBI triple that showcased both his speed and ability to handle pitches at the top of the zone. He continued to produce throughout the weekend, including a multi-double performance and another extra-base hit during bracket play when he drove a ball off the left-field wall. Yeck consistently showed the ability to barrel pitches in different locations while flashing impressive pull-side power for his age. The right-handed hitter attacks early in counts with an explosive, repeatable swing and was a major run producer throughout the event. His combination of bat speed, strength, and offensive feel made him one of the standout 2029 prospects in attendance.


+ OF Caleb Barber (AquaSox National, 2027) was one of the standout performers of the weekend, impacting the game on both sides of the ball while helping lead his club to a tournament championship. Featuring a strong, athletic build, Barber consistently showed the ability to drive the baseball with authority and quickly grabbed attention with a towering home run during an early morning game on Thursday. He continued to swing the bat well throughout the event, producing hard contact on a regular basis and serving as a key piece of the offense. Defensively, Barber excelled in center field, covering plenty of ground while showcasing both his speed and a strong arm. His combination of athleticism, power, and overall impact made him one of the more impressive performers at River Run Park.
