FLAGSTAFF, AZ – On Wednesday, July 1, 2026 the Prep Baseball Arizona staff was at Flagstaff High School for the Northern Arizona Summer ID. The event brought together a strong group of prospects from the 2030 through 2027 classes and served as a check in for players as they continue their Summer circuits.
Each participant received a full Prep Baseball profile update that included a headshot, video, showcase metrics and advanced data. With profiles accessed by college programs nationwide, the event provided meaningful exposure while giving our staff an important look at the talent Northern Arizona has to offer. This Quick Hits article highlights the players who stood out most and made a strong impression throughout the day.

Dylan Lockwood OF / LHP / MIJTED - Bradshaw Mountain High School, AZ / 2027One of the more well rounded performers at the Northern Arizona Summer ID, Dylan showed the ability to impact the event on both sides of the ball. The left handed hitter produced consistent quality contact throughout batting practice, reaching a 99 mph exit velocity while showing a direct path with present bat to ball skills and the ability to use the entire field. Defensively, he moved with athleticism in the outfield, posting an 83 mph arm with clean actions and accurate throws. On the mound, the left hander worked 81 to 83 mph with a repeatable delivery and four pitch mix, showing feel for both a breaking ball and changeup. His 6.83 sixty further highlighted the athleticism, making Lockwood an intriguing two way follow in Arizona's 2027 class.

Jayce Vesely 1B / 3B / Flagstaff High School, AZ / 2027Jayce put together one of the louder offensive performances of the day showcasing present strength and impact at the plate. The right handed hitter generated a 101 mph exit velocity with a 370 foot max distance, pairing physicality with a controlled, repeatable swing that showed both bat speed and bat to ball ability. With a strong frame and offensive upside already showing, Jayce is an intriguing follow in Arizona's 2027 class.

Nitesh Patel OF / SS / Bradshaw Mountain, AZ / 2027Nitesh turned in one of the most athletic all around performances at the Northern Arizona Summer ID, flashing tools across the board. The right handed hitter consistently found the barrel with a balanced, repeatable swing, producing a 95 mph exit velocity while showing the ability to drive line drives to all fields. His athleticism translated defensively, where he showed smooth infield actions, the ability to throw from multiple arm slots and an 87 mph arm from the outfield with present carry. Patel also posted an impressive 6.66 sixty, reinforcing the speed and explosiveness that make him one of the more intriguing under the radar prospects to follow in Arizona's 2027 class.

Trevor Collins C / OF / Cactus Shadows, AZ / 2027Trevor continues to show intriguing upside behind the plate, pairing athleticism with developing offensive impact. The left handed hitter produced a 97 mph exit velocity with a swing built to do damage, showing present bat speed and intent while creating leverage through contact. Defensively, Collins impressed with quick feet, efficient transfers, and pop times as low as 1.94, consistently delivering accurate throws with a quick release. His athletic actions on both sides of the ball make him an interesting follow as he continues to add strength and refine his game.

Brecken Herb RHP / OF / MIJTED - Bradshaw Mountain High School, AZ / 2028Brecken continues to establish himself as one of the top arms in Arizona's 2028 class. The 6 foot 2 right hander worked 86 to 88 mph with a fastball that he consistently commanded, repeating a clean, balanced delivery with minimal effort throughout the bullpen. He complemented the heater with feel for a quality four pitch mix, featuring a cutter, curveball, and splitter. Herb's physical frame, efficient operation, and advanced feel for pitching continue to point toward a high ceiling, making him one of the more intriguing young arms to follow in the state.

Teyan Clerry SS / 2B / CAVIAT - Flagstaff High School, AZ / 2028Teyan showcased one of the better all around athletic performances of the event, flashing quality actions on both sides of the ball. The right handed hitter displayed a simple, repeatable swing with present bat to ball skills, consistently working through the middle of the field while producing a 94 mph exit velocity. Defensively, Clerry stood out with smooth footwork, soft hands, and a quick release, showing the instincts and body control to remain in the middle of the diamond. Combined with a 6.71 sixty, Clerry continues to trend as an athletic middle infielder with plenty of upside in Arizona's 2028 class.

Jaxon Steng SS / RHP / Williams High School, AZ / 2028Jaxon is an intriguing long term follow thanks to his projectable 6 foot 4 frame and two way upside. On the mound, the right hander worked 80 to 82 mph with a loose, whippy 3/4 arm action that suggests more velocity is on the way as he continues to mature physically. He showed feel for spinning the breaking ball, creating over 2,300 rpm on the curveball while repeating an athletic, controlled delivery. Steng also flashed offensive upside with a 95 mph exit velocity, making him one of the more projectable prospects in Arizona's 2028 class.

Drew Strader SS / 2B / Bradshaw Mountain, AZ / 2028Drew was one of the biggest offensive winners of the event, delivering one of the loudest rounds of batting practice with a 106 mph exit velocity and 384 foot max distance. The right handed hitter shows a polished offensive operation, creating separation with quality lower half usage while producing consistent hard contact to all fields. Defensively, Strader displayed reliable actions in the infield, fielding with confidence while showing the ability to make throws from multiple arm slots. With present strength, present bat to ball skills and offensive impact already showing, Strader may just establish himself as one of the more dangerous bats in Arizona's 2028 class.

Broden Custer 2B / RHP / Flagstaff, AZ / 2028Broden showed a fundamentally sound game with steady actions on both sides of the ball. The right handed hitter displayed a simple, repeatable swing that produced consistent line drive contact, showing present bat to ball skills and an approach geared toward using the middle of the field. Defensively, Custer looked comfortable in the infield with smooth footwork, quality body control, and the ability to make plays from multiple arm slots while on the move. The physical left handed hitter produced a 102 mph exit velocity with a 405 foot max distance, generating easy carry off the barrel while consistently swinging with intent. Despite his size, Young moves well around first base, displaying quality footwork and reliable defensive actions. As he continues to improve the consistency of his offensive operation, the combination of present strength and power upside makes him an intriguing bat to follow in Arizona's 2028 class.

Ryan Heimpel SS / 2B / Bradshaw Mountain, AZ / 2028Ryan showed a polished, fundamentally sound skill set throughout his workout, standing out with his consistency at the plate. The right handed hitter repeated a balanced swing with present bat to ball skills, producing line drive contact to all fields while posting a 92 mph exit velocity. Defensively, Heimpel displayed reliable hands, clean actions, and an accurate, quick release that fit well on the infield dirt. Anthony Soto SS / 2B / Williams High School, AZ / 2028Anthony showcased an intriguing two way skill set, with the biggest impression coming on the mound. The right hander worked 77 to 80 mph with a fastball that showed over 2,000 rpm of spin, although the velo does not jump off the page his breaking ball stood out as one of the better offerings of the event, spinning north of 2,600 rpm and flashing sharp shape. Defensively, Soto displayed smooth infield actions with the ability to throw accurately from multiple arm slots and he added value offensively with a line drive approach and present bat to ball skills. With a well rounded game and encouraging pitch characteristics on the mound, Soto is a prospect to continue following in Arizona's 2028 class.

Adrian Crockett 2B / RHP / Flagstaff High School, AZ / 2029Adrian showed a solid foundation with plenty of room for future development, putting together a well rounded workout on both sides of the ball. The right handed hitter produced a 92 mph exit velocity while showing a simple, repeatable swing geared toward line drive contact through the middle of the field. Defensively, Crockett impressed with controlled footwork, a quick arm, and the ability to make throws from multiple arm slots, giving him the tools to remain on the left side of the infield. As he continues to mature physically and add strength and quickness, Adrian is a 2029 prospect with intriguing long term upside.

Jason Placencia C / OF / Prescott High School, AZ / 2029Jason put together a solid all around workout, showcasing athleticism and developing feel for the game behind the plate. The right handed hitter displayed a balanced, repeatable swing with present lower half usage, producing consistent contact while showing the ability to drive the baseball to all fields. Defensively, Placencia worked well behind the dish with clean exchanges, accurate throws, and athletic actions that point toward continued development as a catcher. With his combination of athleticism and a fundamentally sound skill set, Jason is a 2029 prospect worth keeping an eye on as he continues to mature.

The right handed hitter produced a 96 mph exit velocity while consistently finding the barrel with a balanced, repeatable swing that projects well as he continues to develop. Behind the plate, Schmitz displayed clean receiving actions, quick exchanges, and accurate throws, showing the traits to continue progressing defensively. With his combination of offensive upside and developing catching ability, Henry is an intriguing young backstop to follow in Arizona's 2029 class.

Rocque Montoya Jr 3B / C / Williams High School, AZ / 2029Rocque showcased a balanced, fundamentally sound game with encouraging offensive and defensive traits throughout the workout. The right handed hitter generated a 94 mph exit velocity while displaying a simple, repeatable swing with present bat to ball skills and the ability to drive line drives through the middle of the field. On the defensive side, Montoya moved well around the infield with controlled footwork, a quick arm, and the ability to make accurate throws on the move. As he continues to unlock more lower half involvement at the plate, Rocque has the tools and athleticism to continue making strides in Arizona's 2029 class.

Defensively, Gates displayed reliable actions both in the outfield and around first base, showing soft hands, quality footwork, and steady body control.
