Canes Houston Scout Day: Quick Hits

Over the weekend of May 30th, the PB Texas staff traveled to Tomball Memorial High School in Tomball, TX, to host the Canes Houston Scout Day, an event exclusively for members of the Canes Houston program.
More than 75 players made their way to Tomball Memorial HS and participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Texas staff.
We have already released a Statistical Analysis from the event, highlighting the top statistical performers. Today, we will provide our scouting takeaways on some of the prospects who stood out throughout the event.

Chase Adams | C | Oak Ridge | 2030 | S/R
Adams has a solid build/frame to work with, and shows projectable strength. A switch hitting catcher with a smooth left handed stroke. A balanced swing with a flat path and shows feel for the barrel. Behind the dish he was a 2.17-2.28 with soft hands and a smooth exchange. Solid up and coming player.
Carson Byars | 1B/3B | Waller | 2030 | R/R
Physical young prospect with a strong frame at 6’2”, 195 pounds and present strength throughout. Corner infield profile with size and physicality that stands out for the class. Shows ability to handle both first and third base with soft hands and developing actions. Offensive upside will be the carrying tool. Strength present in the swing with ability to drive the baseball when on time. Creates leverage and projects for future power as he continues to develop physically.. Young player with size, strength, and power potential that should draw attention as he progresses through high school.
Ameer Ishaq | 1B/RHP | Klein | 2030 | R/R
Lean, athletic frame with plenty of room for added strength and physical development. Shows solid defensive actions in the infield with a 70 mph arm across the diamond and developing body control. Moves well laterally and projects to improve as strength and athleticism continue to mature. Young prospect with upside remaining as the body develops and overall tools continue to progress.
Dawson von Gontard | 3B/RHP | Magnolia West | 2030 | R/R
Athletic two-way prospect with solid actions on the infield and the ability to handle the hot corner. Shows body control and dependable glove work with developing defensive instincts. On the mound, works with a repeatable delivery and demonstrates the ability to consistently throw strikes. Young player with feel for the game and a foundation to build on as his physical tools continue to develop.
Colby Adams | 2B/OF | Grand Oaks | 2029 | R/R
Compact, athletic prospect with a 5’4, 120-pound frame and developing strength. Shows solid defensive fundamentals with active feet, an accurate arm, and the ability to make routine plays consistently. Displays a utility profile with the versatility to contribute at multiple positions. High-energy player whose instincts and feel for the game allow his tools to play up.
Benjamin Lennox | LHP/OF | Friendswood | 2029 | L/L
Long, projectable two way prospect with a lean frame and plenty of room to continue adding strength. Shows left handed upside with developing bat speed and leverage in the swing, giving him future offensive projection as he matures. On the mound, works with a repeatable delivery and throws strikes with feel for the zone. High follow 2029 prospect whose size, left handed profile, and two way ability make him intriguing moving forward.

Athletic young prospect with developing tools and room to continue adding strength. Shows playable actions with a solid baseball foundation and the ability to continue improving with reps. Projects to make jumps as the body matures and the athleticism continues to show up more consistently. Follow player with upside tied to added physicality and continued skill development.

Developing left-handed bat with a simple, workable setup and room to add strength. Shows the ability to get the barrel through the zone with flashes of hard contact when on time. Swing should continue to gain impact as the body matures and he learns to use the lower half more consistently. Young follow with offensive upside tied to added physicality and continued barrel accuracy.
Cooper Tyler | 2B/3B | Grand Oaks | 2029 | R/R
Developing hitter with a simple setup, loose hands, and a line drive approach that flashes gap to gap contact when on time. Swing has room to gain more strength and impact as the body continues to mature. Defensively, shows a quick exchange in the infield with the ability to get the ball out efficiently. Feet work well enough to stay on time, and the solid arm gives him playable carry across the diamond. Drove a 3B in game play.
Paxton Frith | 1B/RHP | Magnolia West | 2028 | R/R
Solid hitter with some physicality at the plate. Showed some 93-94 mph exit velos. Strength to the barrel and hands. Will continue to improve as his hit approach matures. Nice actions around the bag at 1B. Projectable pop with his 6’0” 220 frame.
Titus Petty | 3B/OF | Magnolia | 2028 | L/R
Good build/frame with projectability. Solid left handed stroke with some bat speed. He shows the ability to stay inside the baseball while generating some pop. Versatile defender who projects as a corner INF type. Solid actions on the dirt with a good arm. Drove two singles and a triple during game play.
Bryce Reding | LHP/OF | Cooper | 2028 | L/L
Developing two way prospect with a simple setup at the plate and room to add strength. Shows a line drive approach with the ability to work the barrel through the zone and make contact to the middle of the field. On the mound, shows some pitch ability with a repeatable delivery and developing feel for the fastball around the zone. Struck out four in game play and projects well as the body adds strength, velocity continues to climb, and the strike throwing ability keeps improving.
Landon Mains | 3B/RHP | Caney Creek | 2029 | R/R
Strong frame with a simple setup at the plate and a controlled move to the baseball. Shows a chance to hit at a high level with the ability to work the barrel through the zone and produce line drive contact to the middle of the field. Defensively, shows developing infield actions with the ability to move through the baseball and make routine plays. Young follow with upside tied to continued strength gains, improved bat speed, cleaner footwork, and consistent barrel accuracy.

Physical first baseman with present strength at 6'1", 180 pounds and a frame that should continue to hold more strength. Shows pop at the plate with the ability to impact the baseball when on time. Around the bag, displays solid actions with feel for the position and the ability to handle routine plays. Strong infielder with solid actions on the dirt and soft hands that play well through the baseball. Shows the ability to throw from different angles with feel for making plays on the move. At the plate, there is some length to the swing, but he shows pull side pop and the ability to impact the baseball with an exit velocity up to 95 mph. Intriguing follow with defensive versatility, offensive strength, and a unique arm slot that gives him a different look on the mound.
