Road to LakePoint: Previewing Team NC and Team Carolina for the Future Games

The most anticipated week on the amateur baseball calendar is nearly here. From July 21–26, the nation’s premier uncommitted talent will converge on the state-of-the-art complexes at LakePoint Sports in Emerson, Georgia, for the annual Prep Baseball Future Games and Senior Future Games.

With over 450 college coaches and scouts expected to line the backstops, the stage is set for a defining moment in these young athletes' recruiting journeys. Every single player in attendance shares two things in common: they are entirely uncommitted, and they represent the absolute elite of their respective classes.

This year, the Old North State is sending a powerhouse contingent down south. For the Future Games (2028 grads), Team NC will take the field looking to showcase the depth of homegrown talent. For the Senior Future Games (2027 grads), North Carolina will join forces with our neighbors to the south to form a loaded Team Carolina roster.

Both squads will jump straight into the fire, starting with a grueling pro-style workout to flash their tools, followed by a highly competitive three-game guarantee against the best uncommitted rosters in the country.

To get you ready for the action, we are breaking down our rosters by primary position groups over the coming days. From explosive arms on the mound to dynamic bats and elite defenders, here is your comprehensive preview of the North Carolina prospects set to turn heads at LakePoint.

Future Games Preview: Commanding the Diamond from Behind the Plate

The anchor of any great defense starts behind the dish, and the catchers heading to LakePoint Sports to represent North Carolina are ready to lead. As we continue our positional previews for Team NC and Team Carolina ahead of the Prep Baseball Future Games (July 22-25), the spotlight turns to the backstops.

This group of uncommitted talent brings a blend of physical presence, advanced receiving skills, and the offensive firepower needed to impact the game on both sides of the ball. Here is a look at the catchers who will be controlling the running game and managing the pitching staff on the national stage.

Team NC (Future Games - 2028 Grads)

Yates Toney - C/1B

  • High School: Burns HS
  • Bats/Throws: L/R
  • Height/Weight: 6’0” | 210 lbs
  • Scouting Report: Toney is a physical presence behind the plate with a sturdy frame built for the rigors of catching. He shows soft hands receiving and possesses a strong, accurate arm that controls the running game. Offensively, Toney generates significant leverage and raw power from the right side, projecting as a middle-of-the-order run producer as he continues to develop

Lawson Tyndall - C/OF

  • High School: Eastern Carolina Academy
  • Bats/Throws: R/R
  • Height/Weight: 5’11” | 175 lbs
  • Scouting Report: An athletic backstop who brings versatility to the roster. Tyndall moves exceptionally well laterally, keeping balls in front with ease, and features a quick transfer that consistently produces sub-2.0 pop times. At the plate, he offers a line-drive approach with excellent barrel control, consistently finding the gaps while using his athleticism to impact the game beyond just the catcher position.

Cameron Massey - C/INF

  • High School: Heritage HS
  • Bats/Throws: R/R
  • Height/Weight: 5’10” | 180 lbs
  • Scouting Report: Massey is an instinctive player with a high baseball IQ who handles top-tier pitching with maturity. He works quietly behind the plate, framing pitches effectively, and gets the ball out quickly to second base. There is advanced carry and accuracy in the arm as it stands out in workouts and live-game action. Offensively, Massey brings a compact, repeating swing that sprays line drives to all fields, showcasing an advanced approach that limits swing-and-miss.

Team Carolina (Sr. Future Games - 2027 Grads)

Tyce Thompson - C/1B

  • High School: South Central HS
  • Bats/Throws: R/R
  • Height/Weight: 6’1” | 200 lbs
  • Scouting Report: Thompson offers an impressive combination of size and refinement for the catching position. He is a strong blocker and receiver who presents a large target for his pitching staff. His arm strength translates well in game action, effectively shutting down opposing base stealers. In the box, Thompson uses his strong lower half to produce aggressive bat speed, translating into loud, pull-side power.
