Future Games Tryout, Malibu: Positional Analysis

On Saturday, May 30th, the Prep Baseball California team hosted the Malibu Future Games Tryout at Pepperdine University in Malibu, Cal. This was an invite-only event for 2028 graduates, and gave our staff an ample look at the area's top prospects.

Today, we will we’re taking a look at all of the positional prospects from the event, along with a top-5 ranking of who impressed our staff the most.

TOP POSITIONAL PROSPECTS

1. William Lynch, Harvard-Westlake (CA), 2028
Positional Profile: OF/3B Athletic OF with strong hit tool, looking to do damage gap to gap.
Body: 5-11, 163-pounds. Lengthy and wiry frame. Long arms.
Hit: RHH. Athletic stance with a slightly open stance. A small leg kick where the backside gets loaded and the hands cock back, creating hip shoulder separation. A strong weight shift to the front side, allowing to catch the ball out infront. Looking to do damage in the air and one a line. mph bat speed with g of rotational acceleration.
Power: 96 mph max exit velocity (91.1 avg.); 360-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. OF - 86 mph. A bigger crowhop with longer arm action. Consistently putting the ball on a one hop to the catcher.
Defense: Quick reads and attacks the ball well, fielding the ball off the lead leg.
Athletic Testing: 7.07 runner in the 60-yard dash.
