Top Prospect Games Houston: Quick Hits

On Tuesday, June 30th, the PB Texas staff traveled to the University of Houston in Houston, TX, to host the Top Prospect Games: Houston, an invite-only event for all high school classes.

30 players made their way to the University of Houston and participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Texas staff.

We have already released a Statistical Analysis from the event, highlighting the top statistical performers. Today, we will provide our scouting takeaways on some of the prospects who stood out throughout the event.

Jacob Owens | SS/OF | The Bennett School | 2027 | 5'11" 170
Athletic defender with the versatility to handle both SS and OF at a high level. On the dirt, shows smooth actions with feet that work, while the arm strength stands out at 91 mph across the INF. In the OF, plays through the baseball well with 91 mph arm strength and carry to the target. At the plate, shows quick hands, a flat bat path, and gap to gap power with an up the middle approach.

Yandel Santos | C | The Bennett School | 2027 | 5'10" 176
Balanced offensive profile with the ability to stay inside the baseball and drive it with authority. Shows extra base hit capability with a simple, controlled swing and quality barrel feel. Behind the plate, is a quality receiver with a quick release, posting 1.94 to 2.01 pop times. Solid catching profile with offensive upside and the defensive tools to impact the game.

Braden Durrett | C/1B | Ridge Point | 2027 | 6'3" 188
Physical C/1B with a strong 6'3", 188 pound frame and plenty of upside. Behind the plate, posted 1.87 to 1.95 pop times with quick feet, a strong arm up to 80 mph, and quality catch and throw actions. Also showed 89 mph arm strength across the INF, highlighting his versatility. At the plate, the quick hands stand out, working from the middle of the field to the pull side gap while producing loud contact with exit velocities up to 101.3 mph.

Cash Wilson | OF | Katy Tompkins | 2027 | 6'0" 190
Athletic OF with a strong 6'0", 190 pound frame and a solid mover profile, posting a 6.99 sixty. Defensively, the feet and glove work well, allowing him to play through the baseball with confidence. At the plate, the left handed swing works well with some buggy whip to the barrel, creating loud impact and exit velocities up to 105.2 mph. Athletic follow with present power, bat speed, and plenty of upside.

Joseph Young | C | A&M Consolidated | 2027 | 6'2" 207
Physical catcher with a strong 6'2", 207 pound frame and one of the louder offensive profiles in the class. Uses a toe tap load with a flat bat path, producing big impact and topping at 110.1 mph exit velo. Athletic for the position, posting a 6.84 sixty, with arm strength and carry behind the plate while recording 1.86 to 2.01 pop times. High follow catching prospect with power, athleticism, and the tools to impact the game on both sides of the ball.

Luke Daigle | RHP | Cypress Ranch | 2027 | 6'2" 199
Projectable RHP with a strong 6'2", 199 pound frame and velocity that continues to climb each time out. Works from a three quarter slot with the fastball sitting 90 to 92 mph, showing some arm side tail. The slider sat 76 to 77 mph with solid shape and action, while the changeup worked 80 to 82 mph with feel. Three pitch strike thrower with plenty of projectability, and a chance to keep making significant jumps.

James Pratt | RHP/1B | West Rusk | 2030 | 6'0" 151
Projectable RHP with an athletic 6'0", 151 pound frame and plenty of room to add strength. Works from a repeatable delivery with a quick hand, running the fastball 80 to 83 mph. The slider sat 74 to 76 mph with a short, late break, giving him a quality secondary offering. Young arm with plenty of upside, present pitchability, and the traits to continue making strides as he matures.

Colton Castro | C | The Bennett School | 2029 | 5'9" 164
Young catcher with a solid foundation behind the plate and quality catch and throw traits. Posted 1.94 to 2.01 pop times with a quick exchange, good feet, and a quiet receiving style. At the plate, shows quick hands with a gap to gap approach and consistent barrel accuracy. Produced exit velocities up to 97.8 mph, giving him a well rounded offensive profile with present impact.
