Fort Worth Summer ID: Infielder Analysis

On Tuesday, June 2nd, the PB Texas staff traveled to Weatherford College in Weatherford, TX, to host the Fort Worth Summer ID, an open event for all high school classes.

More than 70 players made their way to Weatherford JC and participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Texas staff.

We have already released a Statistical Analysis from the event, highlighting more of the traditional statistical categories, as well as a Quick Hits, highlighting some of the events top performers, while also posting Data Dives for both Pitchers and Position Players.

Today, we take a look at the scouting reports on every infielder in attendance from the event.

ALL INFIELD PROSPECTS (LISTED ALPHABETICALLY)

Stephen Barbosa, Longview (TX), 2029
Positional Profile: SS/RHP Developing player, flashes actions on defense. Bat/power will firm. Young player.
Body: 5-8.3, 142.6 pounds. Avg width to shoulders and back, thin build. Will add strength for good build.
Hit: RHH. Lands in good position to hit. Rotational back foot, showing slight linear movement. Overall, lower 1/2 works in swing. Hits into firm front leg, stride foot opens with swing, falling into heel, causing body to lay back, kill use of lower 1/2, cut swing off. Staying into ground with stride foot will firm all previously mentioned. Hands/barrel in good launch position, monitor slight wrap behind head, don't want it to go further behind head. Takes solid path to zone with hands/barrel. Cuts swing off, body falling back, cuts off swing. Stride foot into ground, drive hip forward, stay into ground of stride foot.

Arm: RH. INF - 73 mph. Arm works, raw arm strength will firm.
Defense: Feet work well moving to baseball, shows ability to play thru baseball. Fields baseball deep at times with dead feet, work to field ball out front, moving thru ball. Flashes actions.
Athletic Testing: 7.26 runner in the 60-yard dash; Solid start and stride length. Little upright when running with chin up and back. Develop lean forward with head and shoulders at waist with chin down.

Landen Burns, Hawkins (TX), 2028
Positional Profile: 1B/LHP
Body: 5-11.9, 229.5 pounds. Width to shoulders and back, thickness to middle and lower.
Hit: LHH. Rotational back foot gets stuck in rotation. Get fully turned and on time, shoelaces towards pitcher, this allows for lower 1/2 to be fully engaged in swing increasing power/impacting of baseball. Hands/barrel in solid launch position. Takes direct path to hit zone with hands and barrel. Swing works.
Power: 91 mph max exit velocity (80.5 avg.); 292-foot max batted distance.
Arm: LH. INF - 69 mph. Arm works, recommend long toss program to increase arm speed and raw arm strength.
Defense: Moves well off bag, sets feet to field and move thru ball. When deep, sets feet well, shows developing ability to move feet in fielding process. Fields baseball bit deep, work to field ball out front.
Athletic Testing: 7.88 runner in the 60-yard dash; Solid stride length and run form. Speed will firm in future.

Urban Cason, Plano East (TX), 2028
Positional Profile: 3B/SS Solid build with ability to add strength. Shows ability to hit baseballs hard. Solid bat/power combo in future.
Body: 6-0, 208 pounds. Sloping shoulders with width to back. Thickness with strength to lower.
Hit: RHH. Dead stop approach, develop rhythm/timing movement prior to stride. Rotational back foot with linear movement, continue to develop this movement. Solid job of using lower 1/2 in swing. Hits into firm front leg, stride foot stays in ground, hits from ground up. Posture laid back at contact, work to get upright at point of contact. This will increase ability to get on plane creating increased line drive contact. Barrel/hands in solid launch position. Hands take good path to baseball. Barrel dump at times, top hand should be on same plane with bottom hand keep barrel on plane. Happens occasionally.

Braylin Caston, Boswell (TX), 2028
Positional Profile: SS/OF Athletic player, plus runner, defensive versatility. Impact at plate will develop.
Body: 5-7, 150.8 pounds. Square shoulders, width to back. Showing some strength to lower. Projects well physically for added strength.
Hit: SH. LHH...toe tap, knee lift short stride. Rotational back foot, stride foot falls back into heel with swing, work to keep foot into ground thru contact. Solid use of lower 1/2 in swing. RHH...knee lift stride, rotational back foot, solid job using lower 1/2. Stride foot falls in heel, work to keep stride foot into ground, hit from ground up. Nolan Cauble, Tolar (TX), 2028
Positional Profile: C/3B Developing catcher, can impact baseball.
Body: 5-9.2, 191.8 pounds. Solid build, sloping shoulders, width to back. Lower showing strength.
Hit: RHH. Simple approach to hit, lands in good position after stride. Rotational back foot with linear movement, solid use of lower 1/2 in swing. Hits into firm front leg, Stride foot opens with swing getting on to heel on occasion. Keep foot into ground on all swings. Upright posture at contact. Overall, solid approach. Carson Davidson, Sabine (TX), 2029
Positional Profile: 2B/RHP Solid hit approach, hit over power. Defensively stays in the middle. Added strength/physical maturity key to ability developing.
Body: 5-6, 126.5 pounds. Width to shoulders and back, good middle/lower. Projects well physically.
Hit: RHH. Lands in solid position after stride. Hits off firm front leg, stride foot stays into ground. Rotational back foot, hits with body laid back slightly. Drive back hip forward with foot rotation, looking for upright posture at contact. Overall, solid approach with opportunity to firm. Hands/barrel start in solid position, with stride slight inward turn of front shoulder, hands push back slightly creating very minor wrap. Hands take solid path to hit zone with barrel following, swing works well. Added strength will firm impact in future.

Athletic Testing: 7.82 runner in the 60-yard dash; Solid start and stride length. Head back last 20 yards, keep chin down, head and shoulders forward.

Kaden Dudley, Lindale (TX), 2028
Positional Profile: RHP/1B RHP...looking to see velocity spike in future.
Body: 6-5, 220.2 pounds. Sloping shoulders with width to back. Good middle and lower. Projects well physically.
Hit: LHH. Wide base, heel lift/rock back trigger. Rotational back foot, works in swing. stride foot falls into heel at point of contact, hindering full use of lower 1/2. Work to keep stride foot into ground, hitting into firm front leg, at least thru contact. With stride, back elbow raises causing barrel tip over head, length to swing. Hands push back and slightly away from plate. Barrel works down and around creating increase length to swing path. Would like to see barrel start in area behind head, knob/hands work direct to baseball with barrel following getting on plane.

Athletic Testing: 7.98 runner in the 60-yard dash; Solid stride length. Upright runner with chin up. Work to develop lean forward with head and shoulders, bend at waist. Chin down when running. Speed will increase some in future.

Reed Edmonson, Kilgore (TX), 2029
Positional Profile: 2B/RHP Needs strength, which will come. Developing player showing ability to work with.
Body: 5-9.8, 137.6 pounds. Avg width to shoulders and back, good middle/lower. Projects well physically.
Hit: RHH. Toe tap stride, stride foot late at times getting down, work to get down earlier. Rotational back foot with slight linear movement forward. Lower 1/2 works. Hits into firm front side with good, upright posture. Hit approach will continue to develop. Barrel/hands start in good spot, with stride back elbow pushes back causing wrap behind back of head creating length to swing. Work to keep bat at angle allowing for direct path to hit zone with hands and barrel. Bat speed and bat strength will increase with strength. Lot to like with swing for future.

Mason Ensley, Keller (TX), 2029
Positional Profile: 1B/3B
Body: 5-11, 164.9 pounds. Width to square shoulders and back, good middle/lower, projects well to add strength.
Hit: LHH. Toe tap stride, rotational back foot gets stuck in rotation. Get fully turned to fully engage lower 1/2 in swing. Keep stride foot into ground thru completion of swing. With stride back elbow raises creating barrel tip, causing scoop path and length. Soften elbow movement with stride, allowing barrel to launch from area behind head allowing for direct path to hit zone with barrel/hands.

Grant Fitzgerald, Sunnyvale (TX), 2027
Positional Profile: OF/3B Shows ability to impact baseball, defensive versatility. Adjustment opportunities present to firm contact consistency.
Body: 6-1, 188.1 pounds. Sloping shoulders, width to back. Solid middle, showing strength to lower. Will add strength.
Hit: RHH. Lands in good position after stride. Rotational back with slight linear movement forward. Get back foot fully turned and on time, develop slightly more linear movement forward with back foot. Stride foot opens and falls back into heel. Anderson Gerault, Westlake (TX), 2028
Positional Profile: SS/3B Plus runner, athletic. Solid approach to hit and swing. Ability to play all OF spots.

Positional Profile: 2B/OF Hit over power, developing actions in the middle. Solid player developing, will add strength for tools to play.
Body: 5-7, 119.7 pounds. Thin with avg width to shoulders and back. Will add strength with weights and physical maturity.
Hit: RHH. Simple, efficient approach to hit. Weight shift into back leg with toe tap stride, lands in solid position to hit. Bradley Grooters, Spring Hill (TX), 2029
Positional Profile: 2B/OF
Body: 5-6, 143.7 pounds. Width to shoulders and back, good middle/lower. Will add strength to frame.
Hit: RHH. Wide base, lift lead heel to initiate weight shift back to load. Rotational back foot, gets lower 1/2 involved in swing. Recommend trying to develop some linear movement forward with back foot to fully engage lower 1/2 in swing. Solid posture, hits off firm front leg, foot into ground hitting from ground up. C movement with hands to load hand/barrel, solid position. Hands/barrel work to baseball, cuts off swing. Front shoulder opens early, more back 1/2 of body in swing, think less with front 1/2 of body to help with extension thru baseball.

Walton Harris, Birdville (TX), 2030
Positional Profile: SS/RHP Young player with time to develop.
Body: 5-8.7, 131 pounds. Avg width to shoulders and back. Will add strength in future, projects well physically.
Hit: RHH. Lands in good spot after stride. Rotational back foot, gets fully turned engaging lower 1/2. Stride foot falls into heel, hindering balance and effectiveness of lower 1/2. Stay into ground with stride foot. Solid posture in swing at contact. With stride, back elbow raises creating barrel tip over top of head causing length to swing. Soften back elbow movement, look for barrel to launch from area behind head allowing fir direct/shortened path to hit zone.

Jaylon Hooks, Gladewater Middle (TX), 2030
Positional Profile: SS/OF Young player, switch hitter, athletic with upside.
Body: 5-10.2, 149.5 pounds. Avg width to back and shoulders, good middle and lower. Projects well physically.
Hit: SH. LHH...Wide base, toe tap stride. Showing developing linear movement with back foot. Continue to develop linear back foot, driving forward working to drive hips forward increasing impact. With length between feet after toe tap stride, developing linear movement is key to impact. Keep stride foot into ground thru contact. RHH...Wide base, back foot showing signs of linear movement, develop linear movement to increase use of lower 1/2, firming impact. LHH...With toe tap, front shoulder takes inward turn along with back elbow raising creating length to swing. Inward turn causes hands to cast out towards SS. Recommend softening inward slightly to allow hands to push back towards catcher allowing for hands/know to take more direct path to baseball, allowing for short swing. Jace Howard, West Rusk (TX), 2029
Positional Profile: 2B/3B Young, tools, will add strength. Developing player.
Body: 5-10, 157 pounds. Sloping shoulders, width to back. Good middle/lower. Projects well for strength.
Hit: RHH. Short stride, rotational back foot, gets stuck and slides away from plate hindering lower 1/2. Drive back foot forward, get back foot fully turned and on time. Front foot rolls onto side of foot and falls into heel. Hindering use of lower and balance. Hands/barrel start in solid spot, with stride, back elbow raises creating wrap. Wrap causes length to swing. Soften pre-swing movement. Hands/swing work well to baseball.

Charlie Kulak, Southlake Carroll (TX), 2027
Positional Profile: 1B/LHP
Body: 6-3.3, 166.7 pounds. Avg width to shoulders and back, Good middle and lower, projects well physically for lean strength.
Hit: LHH. Length to stride with rotational back foot, drive foot forward to fully engage lower 1/2 in swing. Hits into firm front leg, weight falls back, resulting in uphill path. Lacks extension to swing due to front 1/2 of body in swing. Can firm impact/consistency with adjustments.

Anthony Leins, Lubbock Cooper (TX), 2027
Positional Profile: 3B/1B
Body: 5-11, 230.2 pounds. Wide shoulders and back. Solid build with thickness to middle lower. Frame build to add strength/power.
