#10 Centreville 3, #13
James Madison 2

In one of the more competitive matchups you will find anywhere in the state this year, the Wildcats and Warhawks were back at it for round three with the Concorde District Championship on the line. Madison got an early one run lead in the first when a pair of walks would move around courtesy of a few steals and passed balls. Centreville would answer right back after a Ryan Pilon double and a Michael Gambone (App State) single. Thomas Soules would then give them the lead back on a bunt. That score would hold until the fifth when Madison would bunt home a run of their own, making it 2-2. The Wildcats didn’t wait long to answer, taking a 3-2 lead on a Thomas Soules double. After that, Gambone would do what Gambone does, go win a ballgame. The Concorde District Player of the Year threw a four hit complete game, allowing one earned run, and striking out five. Kees Yashko and Graham Rosenberg (Mary Washington) were the only players on either side with multiple hits on the night. Thomas Soules ended 1-1 with the game winning double

Herndon 2, McLean 1

There wasn't a ton of offense to go around from either side as pitchers to the forefront in this one. Alex Inget turned in a quality start for McLean working into the sixth and only allowing one hit. Carter Jones, JW Riggins (Georgetown), and Reid Turner (Shenandoah) had some swings to put in the hit column for the Highlanders. Hayden Rita and Drew Patton (Lehigh) had strong outings for Herndon to keep the McLean offense at bay and become Liberty District champions.

#5 Independence 11, Colonial Forge 1

The Independence Tigers dominated this one, taking a Region 6B Quarterfinal win 11-1 over the Colonial Forge Eagles. The Tiger offense was strong and consistent, scoring multiple runs in every inning except the first. ‘26 Quinn Pak (Eastern Connecticut State), ‘26 Aidan Spagna (Boston College), and ‘27 Reid Hydock led the way, with all three hitters tallying multiple RBIs. ‘26 Colton Hicks (Gardner-Webb) went the complete five innings on the mound for the Tigers, striking out nine without walking a batter. For the Eagles, ‘27 Braiden Luper turned in a three hit performance.

Blacksburg 2, Salem (Salem) 1

Blacksburg Bruins leaned on a dominant outing from Sam Szefc (Virginia Tech) to edge Salem 2-1 on Wednesday, as the right-hander struck out 10 over a complete-game effort. Salem scored first in the opening inning, but Soma Kato answered in the third with a solo homer to left to tie the game. The Bruins took the lead for good in the fifth when Noah Owczarski delivered an RBI single. Salem starter Zach Bocock (JMU) was also strong on the mound with 11 strikeouts in six innings.

#17 Ocean Lakes 8, Kellam 3

Ocean Lakes jumped out early in this one with a two run lead in the first with hits from Beau Bracknell, Tre Hamilton (George Mason), and Greyson Walsh (Marymount). Kellam would answer back with two runs in the top of the fifth to tie things up with a sacrifice fly from Cole Krokus. The Dolphins would have a big fifth inning taking advantage of free bases and a grand slam from Seinko Augins to break things open. Aiden Skalski turned in another quality outing, going a complete game and controlled the Kellam offense.

Northside 1, Christiansburg 0

This game was a pitching duel from beginning to end Thursday afternoon in Roanoke. The Northside Vikings came away with a 1-0 defeat against Christiansburg Blue Demons behind a complete-game shutout from Camden Spangler, who struck out five over seven innings. Evan Bruce (Hampden-Sydney) delivered the game’s only run with an RBI single in the fourth inning, while Christiansburg starter Ethan Wayman (Radford) was tough in defeat with nine strikeouts and just one hit allowed across six innings.

#2 Atlee 3, Eastern View 2

Atlee escaped some pressure filled innings early as Thomas Layne got the start on the mound giving up some weak contact for hits early but managing to escape without allowing a run. Will Haynie with a single up the middle gave Atlee a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 3rd. That was until a bases loaded fielder's choice & safety squeeze tied the game for Eastern View in the fourth inning at 2 runs a piece. Isaac Babich for Eastern View struggled to control the ball throughout the game but made big pitches when he needed to hold Atlee to only three runs, hurling 6 innings & striking out six. Cyclones SS Tyler Caperton made two athletic plays in the infield showing off his polish with the glove & a strong arm to help limit damage for Eastern View. With two runners on for the Cyclones with 2 outs, Atlee turned to Chase Blumberg (VMI) & never looked back. Blumberg struck out the first batter he faced & proceeded to retire every batter he faced striking out 7 & securing the victory for the Raiders as a passed ball gave them the lead in the 6th.

Broadway 3, Brookville 1

A battle on the bump ensued, with eleventh-seeded Broadway securing a 3-1 first-round regional win over Brookville. Brookville senior pitcher Bryce Tolbert (Lynchburg) threw five innings in the start and struck out eight of the first 12 batters he faced. He would go on to tally 12 strikeouts before facing traffic later in the fifth. Broadway junior Colby Fesler threw 6.1 competitive innings in the start, minimizing early traffic and working quick outs. He held Brookville to just one run and picked up six strikeouts before senior Tyler Hedrick closed out the seventh with two strikeouts to secure the win. Broadway sophomore second baseman Jayce Suters accounted for all three runs with a big-time home run in the sixth inning.

John Champe 16, Lightridge 6

Potomac District rivals faced off in what was supposed to be a Distrcit Quarterfinal, but became a game for Region 5D seeding after weather impacted the tournament early in the week. The Knights jumped out quickly with 3 runs in the top of the first and blew the game open with a 7-run inning. The Champe offense was led by RJ Jordan and Ty Kann, both of whom had 4 hits in the game as the Knights pounded out 18 hits and had 6 players with multiple hits. Kann and Brody Harris each had 3 RBIs. Landon Sirois and Grayson Roberts had multi-hit games for the Lightning.

The Godwin Eagles dominated from start to finish in this one. Eli Macturk got the start & threw six innings of shutout baseball after allowing two HBP’s in the first and somehow managing to get out of it with a 0. Jacob Babcock (JMU) was on the barrel all game & drove in the first run of the game on a SAC Fly in the 1st. He would come in to close it out punching 2 batters sealing the victory for the Eagles.
