KENTLAKE VS SILAS (5.13.26)

Kentlake and Silas faced off in a ‘winner to state’ game for the District 3 3A tournament on Wednesday this week. Silas was coming off of a previous victory against Auburn Mountainview while Kentlake had an early round bye. Neither team would be eliminated with a loss and would still have a chance to secure a spot in the 3A state tournament.

KENTLAKE

Kentlake came out on top of this one by a final score of 7-0. Despite the lopsided victory, this one was a lot closer than it seemed for most of the game. Knotted up at 0-0 through the first 4 frames, Kentlake went off for all 7 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. They also produced all 3 of their hits in the 5th inning as well while also capitalizing on some freebies and miscues.

For the offense, the 3 hits were spread out amongst 3 different players. Uncommitted ‘27 INF Jacob Lawrence went 1-2, R, RBI, BB and has been a steady performer all season. We saw a multi-hit performance from the junior earlier this spring and he’s continued to show a mature, contact approach since.

‘26 3B Matthew Ledbetter added 2 crucial RBI with his single in the 5th inning. Overall went 1-3, R, 2 RBI. His base knock came with the bases loaded, 1 out and extended the lead from 3-0 to 5-0 and essentially helped put the game out of reach while also setting up the offense to add on more runs.

Lastly, ‘26 INF/P Christopher Moore (Washington) went 1-2, R, RBI, BB and helped his own cause while he continued to dominate on the mound.

C Moore got the ball and was outstanding across 6+ innings. Finished with a final line of 6.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 9 K. Just narrowly missing a CG shutout due to pitch count. The polished senior had his full arsenal working throughout and there was really never any adversity for him to overcome in this outing.

FB 87-89, T90
CB 74-76
SL 77-79
CH 79-82

Kentlake turned to ‘26 Tucker Bartlett (Columbia Basin College) for that final out in the 7th and he delivered with an emphatic ‘K’ to secure the W and send them to State.

SILAS

For Silas, this was a tough assignment and the offense just didn’t come together. ‘28 1B Eli Lystra had 1 of their 2 hits on the day, finishing 1-3 with a sharp single up the middle. The physical corner INF bat was a standout performer in the preseason and continues to show his power potential and bat speed each time out. Has loose, quick wrists in the swing while keeping the levers short for a tight turn on the ball.

Uncommitted ‘27 OF Christian Peterson had the additional hit for Silas as he went 1-2 with a BB. The speedy OF’er has burst in his game with twitch and athleticism. Hits with more of a level, contact approach and looks to use the big parts of the field.

The Rams gave the ball to ‘26 LHP/OF Carter Lystra (Big Bend CC) and he was sharp for the first 4 frames. Didn’t allow a hit in this outing but just ran into some trouble in that crucial 5th inning. Finished with a final line of 4 IP, 0 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 K. Doesn’t overwhelm with velocity but gets the most out of his 77-80 mph FB by pitching with a consistent 3 pitch mix. CB and CH give him the ability to disrupt timing and change eye levels against opposing hitters. He really competes in the zone and challenges hitters in all counts.

Silas will look to keep their season alive on Saturday with a ‘winner to state’/ loser out game to finish the district bracket.
