Nevada - With the 2026 high school season officially underway, it’s time to recognize the standout performances that helped set the tone across the Silver State in the Opening Week.

Each week this spring, we will name an Nevada Player of the Week and Nevada Pitcher of the Week, honoring the top individual performances from around the state. These awards are based entirely on nominations submitted by high school coaches, highlighting the athletes who delivered when it mattered most during game action.

From dominant outings on the mound to explosive performances at the plate, Week 8 brought no shortage of impact performances. Now, it’s time to spotlight Week 8 honorees of the 2026 season.

 

Player of the Week Spotlight: Andruw Giles 

Basic Academy standout and Oregon Signee, Andruw Giles, put together a dominant performance at the plate this past week, reinforcing his status as one of the premier high school bats in the nation. The Future Games and ProCase Alum was a nightmare for opposing pitchers during the Wolves' high-scoring stretch from April 18th to April 23rd. Giles’ week was lead by his advanced approach that helped him record 2 home runs and driving in seven runs across just three contests. His ability to impact the game in every facet—whether through towering blasts or clinical situational hitting—has made the senior centerfielder the definitive heartbeat of the Basic offense as they push toward the postseason.

Giles started his week with a bang against Boulder City, going 2-for-2 with a home run and 3 RBIs, and he never cooled off. In the crucial series against Foothill, he maintained a perfect 1.000 batting average across both games, launching two more home runs and proving why he is a lock for post-season honors. For the season, Giles is putting up video-game numbers, carrying a .494 batting average and a staggering 1.541 OPS. With 20 extra-base hits (11 doubles, 4 triples, 5 home runs) and 23 RBIs, Giles has combined elite speed and professional-grade power to anchor the Wolves’ lineup.

Pitcher of the Week Spotlight: Nakoa Floto

North Valleys standout Nakoa Floto delivered the performance of a lifetime on April 23rd, etching his name into the record books with a complete-game no-hitter against Douglas High School. Floto was the definition of dominant, silencing the Tigers' bats for 7.0 brilliant innings in a 1-0 shutout victory. The uncommitted junior racked up 8 strikeouts while allowing zero hits, needing just 97 pitches to complete the masterpiece, Floto’s ability to attack the zone and induce weak contact kept the Douglas lineup guessing from the first pitch to the final out, securing a signature win for the Panthers.

Floto’s historic outing vs. Douglas is the pinnacle of a season defined by steady growth and durability. Through 34.0 innings of work this year, he has amassed 42 strikeouts, averaging well over a strikeout per inning. His recent stretch has been particularly impressive, following up a strong 4-inning, 4-strikeout win against Carson with his no-hit gem. With a season Opponent Batting Average (OBA) of .241 and a knack for finding the zone in high-leverage moments, Floto has established himself an arm to know in Nevada's 2027 Class.
