IHSA Daily Roundup: April 15th

No. 1 St. Laurence defeated Saint Ignatius College Prep 13-2. The Vikings offense was led by Sean Popp (2026; Oakton CC Commit), who went 2-for-3 with a triple, double, hit by pitch, stolen base, run scored, and four RBIs. Orlando Vazquez (2026) went 2-for-3 with two singles, a run scored, and three RBIs. Cory Les (2026; Louisville Commit) played the long ball in this contest with a solo home run while also recording a hit by pitch, walk, stolen base, three runs scored, and two RBIs. Evan Panther and Ryan Lotus (2027) both hit RBI doubles to get on the RBI board. John Strzechowski (2026; Lake Land JC Commit) tossed four innings and struck out five batters. Kentucky commit Tristan Steger (2027) went 2-for-2 with a double, while Lewis commit Daniel Coyle (2026) was 1-for-2 with two RBIs.

No. 2 Normal Community shut out Danville 11-0. Beckett Weber (2026), Lucas Beaty (2027), and Owen Weaver each led the Ironmen offense with three RBIs of the contest. Weber hit an RBI groundout and two-run triple, Beaty with two RBI singles and a sacrifice fly, and Weaver with a bases-clearing triple to end the game. As a result of that, the Ironmen threw a six-inning combined no-hitter with three pitchers. Oliver Vercruysse (2027) tossed 3.2 innings and struck out four batters. Drew Stevens (2026; Valparaiso Commit) then delivered 1.1 innings and two strikeouts, and Owen Weaver pitched the sixth inning and struck out one of the three batters he faced. On a side note, Gavin Michaels (2026; Cincinnati Commit) hit two singles and stole three bases in this game.

No. 3 Lincoln-Way East defeated Lemont 10-4. The Griffins offense was led by Rocco Triolo (2027), who went 3-for-4 with two singles, two-run home run, a stolen base, two runs scored, and four RBIs. Casey Mikrut (2027) went 3-for-4 with three singles, a stolen base, run scored, and an RBI. Jacob Newman (2026; Lewis Commit) knocked in an RBI single while Matt Ritter (2028) came off the bench and hit an RBI double during this contest. Bryson Das (2026) threw three innings out of the bullpen and struck out six batters.

No. 10 Chicago Mt. Carmel held on to beat Montini Catholic 4-2. The Caravan offense was led by Joey Ireland (2026; Illinois Commit), who went 2-for-5 with an RBI double and the two-run home run that proved to be the game winner. Brady Holland (2026; Georgetown Commit) added the insurance run in the sixth inning on his RBI single. TJ McQuillan (2026; Wake Forest Commit) also had himself a game with two singles, a walk, and three stolen bases. Connor Elenteny (2026; Notre Dame Commit) pitched a complete game and struck out nine batters in his seven innings of work.

No. 12 Lane Tech defeated Payton College Prep 11-3. Isaiah Martin (2027) led the way for the champions with a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, two singles, a stolen base, two runs scored, and two RBIs. Tanner Toback (2027) drove in two RBIs on his two-run double. Jacob DeVinney (2026; St. Mary's (MN) Commit), Eric Acevedo (2027), and Jeremiah Aguiniga (2026) all knocked in RBI singles to put themselves on the board. Paris Head (2029) had a day as well when he hit two singles, stole two bags, and scored two runs. JJ Stoner started the day on the mound with three shutout innings and three punchouts. Donovan Yoest (2026) also punched out three batters in his two-inning relief outing.

No. 13 Nazareth Academy defeated Marist by the score of 3-2 in eight innings, scoring one in the sixth, one in the seventh and one in the eighth. Gavin Hartigan (2028) went 1-for-4 in the game while driving in a team-high two RBI, and Sean Stolfi (2026) went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Eddie Donnelly (2027) was strong on the mound, going five innings with two runs and three strikeouts. Bobby Labuda was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Jimmy O'Connor (2028) tossed three innings in relief and earned the win, tallying four strikeouts, no walks or earned runs, and only surrendering two hits. For Marist, Ryan Lawlor (2026; St. Mary's - Minnesota) went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

No. 17 Lyons defeated Hanover Central (IN) in walkoff fashion, scoring in the bottom of the seventh inning on a perfectly placed squeeze from Tommy Georgelos (2026; Eastern Illinois). Georgelos finished the game 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Brady Koren (2027) went 2-for-4 in the game with a home run, one RBI and two runs scored. Jack Slightom (2026; Cincinnati) started on the mound and tossed 5.1 innings, tallying 10 strikeouts, two walks, allowing no earned runs and two hits.

No. 21 Normal U-High defeated Springfield 6-2 to improve to 14-1 on the season. Caleb Hornbrook (2026; Lake Land JC) homered in the game, drove in two, and scored one run, while Cole Brent (2027; Illinois) went 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored. Griffin Meyer (2026) added two hits, one being a double, with one RBI and one run scored, and Parker Roop (2027; Belmont) went 1-for-3 with one RBI, one run scored and a walk. On the mound, Isaac Schroeder (2028) earned the win, tossing five innings with eight strikeouts, no walks, two earned runs and six hits. For Springfield, Brody Scheffler (2026; Lincoln Land CC) went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

No. 23 McHenry defeated Cary-Grove by the score of 20-6. Kaden Wasniewski (2027; Louisiana State) charged the offense, going 3-for-5 with a home run, double, five RBI and two runs scored. Carver Cohn (2028) went 2-for-4 with a double, four RBI, three runs scored and a walk. Landon Clements (2027; Illinois-Chicago) and Jeffry Schwab (2026) each tallied a pair of hits, with Clements collecting one RBI, two runs scored and a walk, and Schwab added a double with three runs scored, one RBI and a walk. As a team, the Warriors collected 15 hits and 17 RBI. Deegan Windhalm (2026) tossed 1.2 innings in relief with two strikeouts, no walks, no runs, and one hit. For Cary-Grove, Oskar Freund (2026) went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run scored and a walk.

Dunlap defeated Limestone by the score of 5-3. Eli Michanicou (2027) tossed four perfect innings in relief and struck out five, throwing 30 strikes on 39 pitches. Ryder Rennette (2028) tallied two hits and one run scored at the plate, and Brett Alkire (2027) went 1-for-2 at the plate with a home run, two RBI and one run scored, also tallying six strikeouts on the mound.

Mt. Zion defeated Effingham 8-3. Brock Foster went 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run, double, two RBI and one run scored. On the mound, he collected five strikeouts over 6.2 innings of work.

Coal City took down Wilmington 2-0. Lance Cuddy fired a gem to earn the win, going the distance while scattering three hits, no runs, one walk and 13 strikeouts. Despite the loss, Cooper Holman threw it well for Wilmington, as he fired a seven inning complete game with four hits allowed, two runs no walks and seven strikeouts.

Glenwood defeated Routt Catholic 9-2 behind a strong offensive performance from Quinten Hale (2027) who went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, four RBI and one run scored. Dylan Huff (2027; Toledo) went a perfect 2-for-2 with a double, two RBI, and a walk, also tallying four strikeouts across six innings of work on the mound.

Washington defeated Pekin by the score of 12-2 in six innings. Camden Vescogni (2027) threw four innings, struck out 10, walked three, allowed two runs and three hits. At the plate, Sam Jones (2026; College of Lake County) went 1-for-2 with a home run, five RBI and one run scored. Anson Zaiser (2026; Spoon River JC) went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and one run scored.

Arcola took down Salt Fork 13-6. Brevyn Whisman led the offense, going 3-for-4 with a home run, double, three RBIs and three runs scored. Brody Phillips was 2-for-4 with a triple, three runs scored, walk and a stolen base. Brody Drake threw it well on the mound, going six innings with three earned runs, striking out nine.

Herscher took down Pontiac 10-1. Colton Carson threw five strong innings with no walks and seven strikeouts. Gaige Brown was 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

Mahomet-Seymour defeated Mattoon by the score of 14-4 in six innings. Bradley Jones went 3-for-4 at the plate with two home runs, six RBI and four runs scored. Aiden Banister (2-for-3, HR, 4 RBI, R), Pierce Douglas (2-for-3, HR, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R), and Nolan Sanderson (2-for-4, 3B, 2B, 2 RBI, 3 R) all added to their strong offensive performance.

Galesburg took down Alleman 13-4. Brady Williams (R) and Adam VanMeighem (2 RBI, R) both went 3-for-4 on the day. Everett Smith chipped in with a double and a single, while Connor Fox added a single and two RBIs.

St. Rita took down Oak Lawn 15-0 in a combined no-hit effort. Greg Zaber fired two innings with one strikeout, Nick Cegielski and Jayden Ibarra both fired a scoreless frame. Jayden Hawkins paced the offense going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Ryan Jones was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored - while Timmy Swanson was 1-for-1 with a solo home run, two RBIs, three runs scored and a hit-by-pitch.

Newman Central Catholic took down Eastland 10-0 in six innings. Jameson Hanlon (2028) went 4-for-4 at the plate with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored. Michael Morse (2027) added two hits, one being a double, and four RBI, and Garet Wolfe (2026; Highland CC) added three hits, two RBI and four runs scored. On the mound, Garret Matznick (2026; Kaskaskia JC) earned the win, firing four innings with three strikeouts, one walk, no earned runs and two hits allowed.

Altamont defeated Cumberland by the score of 5-2. Zaine Miller (2027), Brayden Elam (2026), and Parker Bell all led the way for the Indians offense. Miller with an RBI single, Elam with an RBI double to start the scoring early, and Bell walked to force in a run for his RBI of the game. Another notable performance came from Carson Milleville, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four singles and scoring three runs. Kaiden Wolff (2027) pitched a strong performance by going six innings and 92 pitches, which qualified him for the win. Reed Stuemke notched the save for the Indians.

Hinsdale Central took down Providence Catholic 2-1. Max Judge threw it well, going five innings with no runs allowed. Milan Bansal fired two strong innings in relief with one earned run to notch the save. Patrick Connors had two defensive putouts from center field to save two would-be runs. Dylan Kassab paced the offense with two hits and a double. Billy Main was 1-for-3 with a triple and a run scored. PJ Doppke added a double, hit-by-pitch and a walk.
