What's New At The Top

Easton Hawkins RHP / OF / Leslie / 2028

Report: Hawkins cracks the top ten after a big winter performance at the South Oakland A’s Scout Day in February. Hawkins flashed a good three pitch mix with a strong fastball into the low 90s. Clean movements down the mound and will help lead a nice 1-2 punch for Leslie this spring. Will be a high follow this spring.

Mick Smead C / 1B / Constantine High School / 2028

Report: Smead has continued to make strong gains over the course of the winter with noticeable strength gains and improvements with the bat. Smead consistently registered barrels into the low 100s in his BP and featured a strong arm from behind the plate - already boasting a big 6 '3 frame.

Mason Pilotto RHP / 3B / Romeo / 2028

Report: One of the few 2028 grads who attended the annual ProCase - Pilotto flashed his fastball up to 93 with an average fastball at 91 spinning around 2200 RPM. An athletic profile and quick arm - Pilotto is poised to take on a larger role for Romeo this spring on the mound and one to keep a close eye on as the spring season moves along.

The Risers

Tyson Linde RHP / C / Chelsea / 2028

Report: Linde makes a jump up the rankings into the Top 25 after a strong showing over the winter months. Linde, a multi-sport athlete, has seen increases across the board most notably on the mound with an increase in velocity. Linde ran the fastball up to 91 MPH, one of the event highs. Linde has also added solid strength up to 200 lbs on his 6’3 frame - an exciting name to follow for Chelsea.

Chase Steger C / Northville / 2028

Report: The Northville product had a strong performance over the winter and put on a good defensive clinic with strong catch and throw ability with throws on target. Flashed some power to the strong side of the field with a longer leg stride on his lower half - one backstop we will follow closely through the spring.

Griffin Wetzel RHP / Imlay City / 2028

Report: Wetzel had an impressive showing at our Central MI PAS event - with a clean mix of the Fastball, Changeup & Slider. Was able to get up to 87 with a smaller arm swing with late arm side movement on the fastball while the slider has 10-5 shape to it. Wetzel is one we expect to have a strong spring at Imlay City and a close to follow in this 2028 class.

Notable Newcomers

Reed Dommenick OF / Rockford / 2028

Report: Another Multi-sport athlete for Rockford who looks to make an impact for the Rams this spring is a top of the order type of bat who can impact the game with his legs posting a 6.6 over the winter with a strong athletic build. Will help compliment a Rockford lineup with a handful of college commits.

Caden Chisholm RHP / Vicksburg / 2028

Report: Chisholm looks to gain valuable innings for the Bulldogs this spring - Chisholm has a good lower half with longer levers and gets good extension on his pitches. One of the few arms we saw over the winter with a splitter and a fastball with some sink to it. Projectable arm into the upper 80s already with the fastball.

The Sleepers

Nolan Gilding RHP / 1B / Rockford / 2028

Report: Another West Michigan arm who made good strides over the winter - Gilding has a stockier frame with a longer arm swing in place with a mid-upper 80s fastball and two pitches (CH / SL). Was a top performer at our Western MI PAS II over the winter and looks to have an impact at RHS this spring.

William Latra RHP / SS / North Farmington / 2028

Report: Latra made a good impression on our staff at the Central MI PAS in February and is poised to help lead NFHS this spring on the hill - a solid frame with a shorter arm swing and moves well down the mound - has some later run to the fastball up to 86 and a tighter slider he flashed with some feel.

Breakout Candidates This Spring

Lawrence Lanier Jr OF / Detroit County Day / 2028

Report: LJ has made significant gains physically since we last saw him in 2025 and has cleaned up the swing over the offseason - showed ability for some consistent barrel control and got the head to the ball regularly earlier this month. Will look to play a key role for DCDS over the next few months.

Conner Provenzino C / Howell / 2028

Report: Strong defensive skills with a strong arm and clean transfer - Provenzino has a more flat swing path which enables him to get the barrel out & did so on any balls over the winter - an exciting 2028 whose best innings are ahead of him & will play a factor for Howell this spring.

Timmy Clarey SS / OF / Grand Rapids Catholic Central / 2028

Report: Clarey has been a strong prospect in this class for a while & continues to elevate his game coming off an appearance at Super Sophomore Games in August. A reliable defender in the field with a top of the order hitter profile - Clarey will be a key piece to GRCC this coming spring.

Zac Kruper OF / Anchor Bay / 2028

Report: A left handed stroke who bleeds confidence in his game - Kruper will continue to make good offensive production at the plate this spring for Anchor Bay with consistent at bats and will look to jump his SB numbers up from a year ago.
