Mississippi Diamond Notes returns for the 2026 season, spotlighting standout performances from across the state based on nominations submitted by high school coaches. Each Wednesday throughout the season, we will recognize position players, pitchers, and two-way contributors who have earned attention with their on-field performances.

We appreciate the many coaches who took the time to submit nominations this week. 👏

MISSISSIPPI DIAMOND NOTES: WEEK 6

+ Major Floyd (Mooreville HS) put together a strong week at the plate, going 4-for-7 (.571) with a double and three RBIs, consistently finding the barrel and providing steady production in the lineup.

+ Eli McDaniels (Mooreville HS) delivered a loud offensive showing, hitting .375 (3-for-8) with three home runs and eight RBIs, continuing to showcase big power and middle-of-the-order impact.

+ Wyatt McDaniels (Mooreville HS) impressed as a true two-way presence, hitting .500 (4-for-8) with two doubles and three RBIs while also dominating on the mound with 6.2 innings, 14 strikeouts, and no earned runs in a win over Houston.

+ Carson Hicks (Mooreville HS) excelled in multiple roles on the mound, earning both a win and a save while logging 7.1 innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits with seven strikeouts, finishing with a 0.95 ERA for the week.

+ Chase Sones (Poplarville HS) had an explosive week at the plate, going 7-for-9 with a double, a triple, and 11 RBIs, consistently delivering in key spots and anchoring the offense.

+ Braxton Sones (Poplarville HS) contributed on both sides, going 4-for-6 with three RBIs while also tossing two hitless innings with two strikeouts on the mound.

+ Jett Smith (Poplarville HS) filled up the stat sheet, hitting 3-for-6 with a .700 OBP, three RBIs, and two stolen bases, while also earning a win with 2.2 innings and three strikeouts.

+ Ty Keys (Poplarville HS) served as a catalyst all week, going 3-for-8 with a .583 OBP, scoring seven runs, and swiping three bases, while also picking up a win with three innings on the mound.

+ Nathan Ray (Poplarville HS) made his impact count, going 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs, while also tossing five scoreless innings to earn a win.

+ Talon Cipriano (Pearl River Central HS) had a near-perfect week at the plate, going 5-for-6 (.833) with a triple, four runs scored, and two stolen bases, consistently creating pressure offensively.

+ Landyn Wilson (Pearl River Central HS) was a force in the lineup, hitting .800 (4-for-5) with a double, five RBIs, and four runs scored while adding three stolen bases.

+ JJ Morreale (2026, PRCC Commit, Pearl River Central HS) showcased his dynamic skill set, hitting .625 with two doubles and a triple, scoring seven runs and stealing five bases as a true table-setter.

+ Blake Gill (2026, PRCC Signee, Pearl River Central HS) delivered big-time production, batting .571 with a home run, seven RBIs, and three runs scored while adding two stolen bases.

+ Roman Mitchell (2026, Southwest Mississippi CC Signee, Pearl River Central HS) dominated on the mound, earning a win with four shutout innings, allowing just two hits with no walks and seven strikeouts.

+ Walker Whitehead (Pisgah HS) was lights out in relief across two appearances, totaling five scoreless innings with just two hits allowed, no walks, and 10 strikeouts.

+ Tate Murphy (2026, St. Stanislaus HS, PRCC recruit) put together a flawless week at the plate, going a perfect 8-for-8 with three doubles, a triple, and a home run. He added two RBIs, two walks, and scored seven runs in a dominant showing.

+ Cash Johnson (2029, Canton Academy) stuffed the stat sheet, going 4-for-5 with a double, two home runs, and six RBIs while posting a .900 OBP. He also threw out two runners and added a strong outing on the mound with five innings and eight strikeouts.

+ Carson Richardson (Baldwyn HS) had a huge week, hitting .667 (4-for-6) while completing the cycle, adding five RBIs and four stolen bases across two games.

+ Sam Guin (Baldwyn HS) stayed productive at the plate, going 3-for-5 (.600) with a double and three RBIs.

+ Brayer Wesson (Baldwyn HS) showcased his extra-base ability, hitting .429 (3-for-7) with two triples and a home run.

+ Rush Watkins (Baldwyn HS) led the way on the mound, tossing a complete game over seven innings with a 1.00 ERA.

+ Jase Schultz (Sumrall HS) stayed hot offensively, going 7-for-12 with multiple extra-base hits, four RBIs, and three runs scored.

+ Corey Paul Bond (Sumrall HS) produced a strong week, going 6-for-13 with extra-base impact and four runs scored.

+ Drew Davis (2027, Sumrall HS, Alabama commit) dominated on both sides, going 5-for-9 with a double, a home run, six RBIs, five runs, and five walks while also striking out 16 in a complete-game performance.

+ Rylan Stanley (2029, New Site HS) had a breakout week at the plate, going 6-for-8 with six RBIs and a walk.

+ Jayden Greene (New Site HS) delivered on the mound, working four innings with just one hit allowed and eight strikeouts in a win over Mantachie.

+ JD Whitaker (2026, Hamilton HS) impacted the game both ways, tossing six innings with seven strikeouts while adding three hits, including two doubles, and four RBIs.

+ Braedyn Lackie (Hamilton HS) showed his two-way value, striking out eight over four innings while also launching a grand slam, adding a double, drawing four walks, and scoring three runs.

+ Tez Danner (Hamilton HS) was a force offensively, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, two walks, six RBIs, and five runs scored.

+ Ian Nichols (2028, Hamilton HS) set the tone at the top, going 5-for-8 with a double and three runs scored.

+ Justin Verner (Hamilton HS) stayed consistent, going 4-for-5 with two RBIs, four runs, and two walks.

+ Jayse Johnson (2026, Alcorn Central HS) continued his strong play, going 5-for-11 with three doubles, four RBIs, and five runs scored.

+ Jackson Miller (2026, Alcorn Central HS) starred on both sides, tossing a complete-game shutout while also going 4-for-10 with five RBIs.

+ Jarrett Thomas (2026, Alcorn Central HS) was dominant on the mound, throwing six scoreless innings with nine strikeouts in a win over Belmont.

+ Jaxon Herod (2028, West Union HS) had a monster week offensively, going 7-for-14 with two home runs, a triple, a double, and 13 RBIs, continuing to cement himself as one of the top bats in the 2028 class.
