Today we are releasing our initial Virginia/DC Private School Top 10. Take a look at some notes on a few teams from inside the rankings.

  • While we will roll out the first update to the Power 25 on 3/30, with private schools so far ahead of public schools in games played, we wanted to get our first release of the Private School Top 10 out. There will be some differences this week due to the lack of update to the overall Power 25, but starting next week all teams will line up from Power 25 and Private Top 10.

  • Starting off the year with the Private School Top 10, Highland School comes in as the top ranked team on the initial release. While they do quite possibly have the "worst" loss of any ranked team, they also have the best win. In addition to that, the loss was a close game, and while certainly not a fluke, there were three combined hits in that game, one being the two-run homerun against the Hawks. Highland defeated Miller School this past weekend 4-3, giving them the best win of any private school team in the state. The Hawks also had a convincing win over Gonzaga two weeks ago. This week they have a big matchup on Wednesday at #6/#6 Bishop O'Connell.

  • Miller School is currently the top ranked team on Power 25 (see above in regards to Power 25 update info), they will enter the Private School Top 10 at #2 after back to back losses to Georgetown Prep and Highland School. While the schedule is, by a wide margin, the toughest schedule in the state, they have struggled out of the gate a little bit more than anticipated. It is still March and there is still ample time to get back on track, but with the head to head loss to Highland School, they will slide back to the #2 spot in this current rankings update. Another tough week lies ahead of the Mavericks.

  • There are three unbeaten teams inside of the Private School Top 10. Cape Henry, St. Anne's-Belfield, and St. Christopher's have combined for 22 wins early this season, but only three combined wins over what would be considered Top 50 teams in the state.

  • There are five teams listed below that are in consideration. The general overview on those five teams is they are off to a good start, but each team is missing that key and quality win to push them into the Top 10. Each of those teams have some quality games coming up on their schedule, and with victories over those opponents, it is likely they could gain some traction into the Top 10.

  • Along with our Power 25 on Mondays, we will update our Private School Top 10 every Wednesday.
