We are less than ONE WEEK from opening day for the 2026 KHSAA season! The Prep Baseball KY staff has been hard at work ranking the top 25 teams in the Bluegrass State. We are now previewing our top ranked teams as part of our Power 25 countdown. Our next round of preview belongs to #20-16!


#16: University Heights Blazers

2025 Recap
University Heights posted a strong 20–11 record in 2025, capturing the 8th District title and finishing as the 2nd Region runner-up to Lyon County. With a reputation for competing in the always-tough 2nd Region and a collection of impressive arms, the Blazers look poised to remain a factor in Hopkinsville.

#17: Christian County Colonels

Christian County enters 2026 with as much depth as any roster in the region, featuring competition at every position and a growing collection of arms that give the Colonels a chance to make a postseason push.

2025 Recap
The Colonels finished 15–15, with their season ending in the first round of the Region 2 tournament. While inconsistency plagued stretches of the year, the experience gained has translated into increased internal competition heading into 2026.

Christian County returns a large and versatile group headlined by multiple arms and athletic position players:

Youth & Depth
The Colonels will also rely on an influx of young talent, including Preston Stokes, Austin Outland, Nolan Young, and Rowan Driver, giving the roster rare depth across all classes.

Team Identity
This is a deep, competitive roster with legitimate options in all phases of the game. Christian County believes it is well equipped offensively, defensively, and on the mound to compete with anyone if execution remains consistent.

Outlook
With expectations set at five, the Colonels view 2026 as an opportunity to make a deep postseason run.

#18: Breckinridge County Fighting Tigers

Breckinridge County returns one of the most athletic lineups in the region.

Finished 23–10, falling in the 3rd Region Finals.

Team Identity
Strong defense and speed headline the Tigers, with pitching depth being the main question.

Outlook
Expectation level is four.

#19: Greenwood Gators  

Region 4 | District 14

Greenwood enters the season coming off a championship-level district run and another deep regional appearance, continuing to set the standard for consistency and culture in Region 4.

2025 Recap
Finished 28–7, winning the District Championship with shutout victories over South Warren (6–0) and Warren Central (15–0). Advanced to the Region Semifinals before falling 2–0 to Warren East.

Returning Leaders

  • Jackson Lee, IF/P, 2026 – Kentucky Wesleyan commit. High-IQ leader who thrives in pressure moments and anchors the infield and pitching staff.
  • Chaze Huff, OF/1B/P, 2026 - Middle-of-the-order bat returning healthy and expected to take on a larger role on the mound.
  • Henry Justice, OF/P, 2026 - Power threat who brings run production and pitching depth.
  • Whitt Glosick, IF/P, 2026 - Versatile defender and high-contact bat who will see expanded innings on the mound.

Team Identity
Greenwood will again lean on pitching, defense, and a contact-oriented offense that applies pressure on the bases. Senior leadership, versatility, and a strong program culture define this group.

Outlook
Expectation level is four. Despite graduating multiple starters and pitchers, Greenwood’s returning experience and competitive schedule should have them postseason-ready once again.

Schedule Highlight
Battle-tested slate featuring Louisville Trinity, Highlands, St. X, South Warren (home-and-home), Bowling Green (home-and-home), and Paducah Tilghman, making it one of the tougher schedules in the state.


#20: Bowling Green Purples 

Region 4 | District 14

Bowling Green enters 2026 as one of the most talented rosters in the state, returning elite-level seniors after an injury-plagued 2025 season cut short in district play.

2025 Recap
The Purples finished 20–12, suffering a disappointing first-round district loss to South Warren despite high expectations.

Key Departures

Returning Star Power
Bowling Green brings back one of the most accomplished senior cores in Kentucky:

  • Jack Cowan, SR, LHP/OF – Belmont commit; All-State caliber, top-10 player in KY.
  • Landon Gilbert, SR, SS/RHP – Cleveland State CC commit; top-25 player in KY.
  • Matt Mosley, SR, 3B/RHP – Rend Lake CC commit; elite defender, top-50 player.
  • James Yarbrough, SR, C/OF – One of the best defensive players in the state.

Supporting Cast

Team Identity
Health will be the determining factor. If the Purples stay intact, they possess high-end arms, defensive excellence, and proven postseason experience capable of carrying them deep into June.

Outlook
With expectations at five, Bowling Green is a legitimate state contender if healthy.
