Texas Diamond Notes: Week 2

The Texas Diamond Notes will focus on highlighting some of the top performances across the state based on nominations from high school coaches. We will highlight positions players, pitchers and two-way players every Tuesday evening of the high school season that had impressive weeks during their team's games.

A special thank you to all of the high school coaches for nominating their players.

WEEK 2 DIAMOND NOTES (LISTED ALPHABETICALLY)

+ Santiago Arreaza, SS (The Colony, 2026):

Arreaza recorded a .500 batting average and a .625 on-base percentage. He collected four RBI and maintained a .929 fielding percentage.


+ Zion Ashford, 1B/CF (North Shore, 2026):

Ashford went 9-for-16 at the plate. He hit one double and one triple while collecting two RBI and six runs scored. He also drew two walks and stole four bases.


+ Johnathan Baccinelli, LF (Santa Fe, 2026):

Baccinelli posted a .571 batting average by going 8-for-14. His stat line included one double, one triple, three RBI, two runs scored, three walks, and one stolen base.


+ Zander Ballenger, P (Cleburne, 2026):

Ballenger pitched seven innings against Melissa. He allowed zero runs on three hits and one walk while striking out six batters.


+ Giovanni (Gio) Barrientez, P/OF (Caprock, 2029):

As a freshman, Barrientez made his second appearance of the season in a 16-0 tournament mercy-rule victory over FW Dunbar. He pitched three innings, allowing zero hits, zero runs, and zero walks. Facing nine batters, he threw 36 pitches and struck out eight.


+ Sebastian Castillo, SS (Byron Nelson, 2027; LSU commit):

Castillo logged a .625 batting average, a .667 on-base percentage, and a 1.854 OPS over 21 plate appearances and 16 at-bats. He recorded ten hits, including six singles, one double, one triple, and two home runs, one of which was a two-run home run against Pearland on Friday night. He also contributed six RBI, eight runs scored, four walks, and two stolen bases.


+ Kenson Buth, 2B/DH (Byron Nelson, 2027; Baylor commit):

Buth posted a .450 batting average and a 1.626 OPS across 21 plate appearances and 20 at-bats. He tallied nine hits, which included two singles, two doubles, three triples, and two home runs. Additionally, he recorded nine RBI, eight runs scored, and one walk.


+ Zach Drew, SS (Liberty Christian, 2026; Central Arkansas commit):

Drew batted .643 with a 1.570 slugging percentage over six games. He collected two doubles, a triple, three home runs, and 21 RBI.

+ Cooper Harris, RHP (Flower Mound, 2026; Texas commit):

Harris tossed a no-hitter where he struck out 17 of 19 batters he faced, with the only baserunner reaching on a dropped third strike. Additionally, only two balls were put in play throughout the outing.

*Harris was named Pitcher of the Week for Week 2*


+ Ty Henkel, CF (Pearce, 2027):

Henkel went 10-for-18 to post a .555 batting average. He provided a spark for the offense by hitting four doubles and collecting three RBI and three runs scored.


+ Nathan McKnight, RHP/UTL (Red Oak, 2026; Blinn JC commit):

McKnight pitched seven innings against Burleson, allowing zero runs on one hit and two walks while striking out 11 batters. So far in 2026, he’s totaled 14 innings pitched, earning two wins, while striking out 23 batters and allowing only three hits and five walks.


+ Lucas Nawrocki, LHP/OF (Aledo, 2026; LSU commit):

Nawrocki went 9-for-13 at the plate, hitting a triple and two home runs while driving in nine. On the mound, he pitched four innings, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out ten batters.


+ Jancarlos Ortiz, OF/3B (Atascocita, 2027):

Ortiz recorded a .500 batting average and a 1.214 OPS after going 7-for-14. He tallied three doubles, five RBI, five runs scored, and three stolen bases.


+ Trey Rangel, P/OF (The Colony, 2026; Texas commit):

Rangel posted a .533 batting average and a .611 on-base percentage. He hit four doubles and two home runs, including a grand slam that turned a 7-5 deficit into a 9-7 lead. He also tallied eight RBIs and eight runs scored. As a pitcher, he threw five innings, allowing zero earned runs on three hits while striking out 12 batters.


+ Griffin Resendez, 1B/DH (Kingwood Park, 2026):

Resendez went 9-for-19 to post a .474 batting average. He hit three doubles, one triple, and one home run.


+ Jax Robinson, C (Waxahachie, 2026; Texas commit):

Robinson compiled a .583 batting average by going 7-for-12 at the plate. He hit a double and two home runs, driving in six and drawing five walks.


+ Carson Roy, OF (Prosper Rock Hill, 2027):

Roy went 8-for-13 with three singles, two doubles, one triple, two home runs, six RBI, six runs scored, four walks, and one stolen base. So far in 2026, he’s recorded a .652 batting average and a .750 on-base percentage, alongside a total of five doubles, two triples, three home runs, 12 RBI, 13 runs scored, and five stolen bases.


+ Wade Sebek, 1B/P (Cy-Fair, 2026; Panola JC commit):

Sebek batted .444 by going 8-for-18 at the plate without striking out. He collected three doubles, one home run, six RBI, six runs scored, two walks, and two stolen bases. On the mound, he pitched 6.2 innings against Rockwall, allowing one run (zero earned runs) on two hits while striking out nine batters.


+ Wilson Sehnem, 3B (Aledo, 2026):

Sehnem batted 10-for-19. He hit a double and a home run while collecting four RBI.


+ Ryan Silva, LF/2B (Creekview, 2026):

Silva went 7-for-17 with a double, two RBIs, seven runs scored, one walk, and one hit-by-pitch. He hit an inside-the-park home run against Aubrey to fuel a 10-5 comeback win. So far in 2026, he’s went 11-for-26 with a double, a home run, two RBI, ten runs scored, four walks, one hit-by-pitch, and two stolen bases.


+ Collin Vaughan, RHP (Prosper Walnut Grove, 2027):

Vaughan pitched six innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits and one walk while striking out seven batters. His performance helped his team beat JSerra Catholic (CA).


+ Jackson Wooten, SS (Atascocita, 2027; Kentucky commit):

Wooten posted a .526 batting average and a 1.598 OPS by going 10-for-19 at the plate. He hit two doubles, one triple, and two home runs, while adding nine RBI, nine runs scored, and six stolen bases.
