Prep Baseball Louisiana: 2026 Diamond Notes (Week 1)

The Prep Baseball Louisiana Diamond Notes serves as an opportunity for our staff to highlight players, from across the state, that put up impressive performances on a given week, yet fell short of our Mizuno Player & Pitcher of the Week honors. 

NOTE: These submissions were provided from high school coaches from around the state.  If you are a coach and are interested in submitting a player for our weekly Player of the Week awards, please contact State Director Alex Armand at [email protected].  Our Diamond Notes will be released each Wednesday throughout the high school spring season.

 

Pitcher of the Week (Week 1)

Ty Lamartina RHP / C / Acadiana, LA / 2026

Rankings  StateRank: 23 / POS: 3

The former Future Gamer and Northwestern State recruit had a big week on the mound for the Rams in Week 1. Lamartina picked up win in relief on opening day against Teurlings Catholic, after tossing 4 shutout innings with 5 strikeouts. He then threw 6 no-hit innings against Kaplan on Saturday with 11 strikeouts to finish the week 2-0 with 16 total strikeouts.

 

 

Player of the Week (Week 1)

Koa Romero 3B / RHP / Hahnville, LA / 2027

Rankings  StateRank: 3 / POS: 1

The former Future Gamer and LSU commit is in the lead for our Player of the Year award after his Week 1 performance. Romero tossed a complete game one-hit shutout with 15 strikeouts against Rummel on opening day and also hit a solo home run to lead the Tigers to the 1-0 win over the Raiders. He finished the week hitting .538 with 2 home runs, 1 double, 1 triple, 8 runs batted in, and 6 runs scored, while also drawing 6 walks and swiping 2 bases.  

 

 

Other Notable Performances (Week 1)

Charlie Donaldson OF / Sam Houston, LA / 2026

The Paris Junior College recruit got off to a red-hot start in Week 1 for the Broncos. Donaldson went 8-for-14 (.571) with 3 home runs, 6 runs batted in, and 7 runs scored across 5 games.

Kaleb Guarisco 1B / OF / Hahnville, LA / 2027

Rankings  StateRank: 13 / POS: 1

The former Future Gamer and Louisiana Tech commit got his junior season off to a really good start in Week 1. Guarisco went 6-for-14 (.429) with 2 home runs, 2 doubles, 4 runs batted in, 7 runs scored, and also drew 5 walks.  

Landen Teague SS / Hahnville, LA / 2026

Rankings  StateRank: 30 / POS: 5

The uncommitted junior and reigning District MVP had has gotten off to a fast start for the Tigers. Teague went 9-for-17 (.529) with 1 home run, 1 double, 5 runs batted in, and 3 runs scored in Hahnville's 5 games last week. 

Caden Amie LHP / Pope John Paul II, LA / 2026

Rankings  StateRank: 64 / POS: 8

The former Sr. Future Gamer and University of New Orleans recruit had a nice Week 1 on both sides of the ball for the Jaguars. Amie earned the win on opening day against Shaw after tossing 4 no-hit innings with 3 walks and 7 strikeouts. He also went 4-for-12 (.333) at the plate with 1 home run, 1 double, 7 runs batted in, and 4 runs scored.  

Derek Weilbaecher SS / OF / Northshore, LA / 2027

Rankings  StateRank: 46 / POS: 9

The uncommitted junior had a massive week at the plate as Northshore moved their record to 5-0. Weilbaecher went 8-for-18 (.444) with 3 home runs and 1 double. He also pitched 5 shutout innings with 6 strikeouts.  

Landen Derouen SS / RHP / Erath, LA / 2027

Rankings  StateRank: 131 / POS: 28
The uncommitted junior was scorching hot at the plate for the Bobcats in Week 1. Derouen went 10-for-12 (.833) with 2 home runs, 2 doubles, and 6 runs batted in. 

Blaze Duhon LHP / 1B / North Vermilion, LA / 2026

Rankings  StateRank: 51 / POS: 6 

The South Arkansas College recruit went 1-0 on the mound in Week 1 after tossing 9.2 shutout innings with 13 strikeouts. Duhon also went 5-for-12 (.417) at the plate with 4 doubles, 4 runs batted in, and 3 runs scored.  

Carter Wilson LHP / OF / Sulphur , LA / 2026

Rankings  StateRank: 47 / POS: 11

The former Senior Future Gamer and McNeese State recruit went 6-for-11 (.545) with 4 doubles, 3 runs batted in, and 3 stolen bases last week. Wilson also went 1-1 on the mound with a 2.00 ERA across 7 innings pitched with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts.  

Brock Trahan RHP / 3B / Sulphur, LA / 2028

Rankings  StateRank: 9 / POS: 6

Trahan got off to a nice start for the Tors in Week 1. At the plate, he went 3-for-6 (.500) with 4 runs batted in and he also picked up his first win on the mound after tossing 4 innings and allowing 1 earned run with 5 strikeouts against Neville. 

Brayden Watkins RHP / SS / Glenbrook, LA / 2029

Rankings  StateRank: 39 / POS: 7
The freshman right-hander earned a tough no-decision last Thursday against Evangel Christian, but that didn't take away from his stellar performance on the mound. Watkins tossed 7 innings and allowed only 1 earned run on 2 hits with 1 walk and 15 strikeouts.

Logan Maricle LHP / 1B / Grace Christian, LA / 2028

Rankings  StateRank: 22 / POS: 3

The sophomore southpaw beat Oberlin last week behind a complete game no-hitter with only 2 walks and 15 strikeouts. Maricle also went 4-for-8 (.500) at the plate with 3 runs batted in and 6 stolen bases.  

Brody McDaniel RHP / 3B / Grace Christian, LA / 2028

McDaniel tossed a complete game one-hitter with 11 strikeouts against False River last week and also went 6-for-13 (.462) with 9 runs batted in at the plate.

Cooper Courtright SS / Grace Christian, LA / 2026

Courtright hit 2 home runs with 7 runs batted in, 6 runs scored, and 4 stolen bases last week for Grace Christian.

Judah Zito 3B / SS / University Lab, LA / 2028

Zito kicked off his sophomore campaign in a big way for the Cubs last week. He hit at a .571 clip with a home run, 6 runs batted in, and 3 runs scored, while also picking up a win on the mound after tossing 4.2 innings and allowed 2 earned runs.  

Hayden Millen OF / Benton, LA / 2027

Rankings  StateRank: 35 / POS: 9
The speedy junior outfielder picked up right where he left off last spring for the Tigers. In four games last week, Millen went 7-for-13 (.538) with a double, 6 runs scored, and he also swiped 6 bases.

Izaac Andre RHP / 3B / Catholic-New Iberia, LA / 2026

The uncommitted senior helped the Panthers get off to a 4-0 start in Week 1. Andre went 4-for-10 (.400) at the plate with a double, 4 runs batted in, 5 runs scored, and 5 walks. He also earned the win last Thursday against Southside after tossing a complete-game shutout with 0 walks and 9 strikeouts.  

Trace Moreau RHP / SS / St. Loiuis Catholic, LA / 2026

Rankings  StateRank: 114 / POS: 21 
The uncommitted senior tossed a complete-game shutout on opening day with 8 strikeouts to beat DeQuincy. Moreau also went 7-for-17 (.412) at the plate for the week with 3 doubles3 runs batted in, and 2 runs scored.
 

Tanner Conley LHP / 1B / Fontainebleau, LA / 2028

Rankings  StateRank: 3 / POS: 1
Conley went 4-for-12 (.333) at the plate with a home run, double, 4 runs batted in, and 3 runs scored last week for the Bulldogs. He also went 1-0 on the mound after logging 6.2 innings and allowing 0 earned runs with 2 walks and 14 strikeouts.

Landen Kennedy RHP / 3B / French Settlement, LA / 2028

Rankings  StateRank: 113 / POS: 10
Kennedy was brilliant in relief against Hammond last Wednesday. He earned the win after tossing 5.2 innings and allowing only 1 earned run on 3 hits with 1 walk and 12 strikeouts.

Ridge Coats C / OF / Ouachita Christian, LA / 2026

Rankings  StateRank: 70 / POS: 4
The uncommitted senior went 5-for-10 for the Eagles in Week 1 with a home run, 6 runs batted in, and 4 runs scored.  

Griffin Jeandron 2B / OF / Jesuit, LA / 2026

Rankings  StateRank: 144 / POS: 4

The uncommitted senior went 6-for-15 (.400) with 4 doubles, 1 triple, 6 runs batted in, and 7 runs scored in the Blue Jays four games last week.

Brock Blessington RHP / OF / Sam Houston, LA / 2028

Rankings  StateRank: 1 / POS: 1

Blessington picked up his first win of the year last Thursday against Kelly Catholic (TX) after tossing 4 innings and allowing 3 earned runs on 6 hits with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. He also went 4-for-7 (.571) at the plate with a home run, 8 runs batted in, 2 runs scored, and 3 stolen bases.  

Kannon Keiser SS / 2B / Sam Houston, LA / 2028

Rankings  StateRank: 17 / POS: 2

Keiser went 3-for-7 (.429) with 2 doubles, 4 runs batted in, 5 runs scored, 3 walks, and 4 stolen bases in the Broncos five games last week.

Gavin Sonnier RHP / Barbe, LA / 2028

Rankings  StateRank: 65 / POS: 18
Sonnier picked up two wins last week for the Bucs against Westlake and Kelly Catholic (TX). He tossed a combined 11 innings and allowed 0 earned runs on 4 hits with 3 walks and 11 strikeouts across the two starts. 

Wyatt Hazelwood Loreauville, LA / 2027

Hazelwood went 5-for-12 (.417) with 4 runs batted in and 2 stolen bases last week for Loreauville.
