On Tuesday, June 16th, the Prep Baseball Illinois staff hosted the Peoria Summer ID at Eastside Sports Centre in East Peoria, IL. 20+ players participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Illinois staff.

Today, we will be providing our scouting takeaways on some of the event's top performers.

TAKEAWAYS

+ RHP Alex Hurie (Normal University, 2030) is an upside underclass arm to know for the coming years. Presenting a wiry, high-waisted 6-foot, 172-pound frame, he sat 81-84 mph with his fastball, paired with a 73-75 mph curveball with depth and ability to land for strikes. He also showed a splitter at 75-79 mph and a sinker at 83-84 mph.

+ C/RHP Lucas Sloan (Olympia, 2028) turned in one of the better two-way performances on the day. On the mound, the athletic 6-foot, 180-pound right-hander showed a fluid, athletic delivery working 85-87 mph with his fastball. He then went to a curveball at 72-74 mph with above-average spin, averaging 2,287 rpm, and sweeping action; averaging 21.6 inches of horizontal movement. Sloan also showed feel for a changeup at 76-78 mph with arm-side fade and separation off the fastball. Offensively, he showed the ability to work gap-to-gap from the right side with authority. He peaked at 98 mph off the bat paired with a max batted distance of 338 feet and a hard hit percentage of 82%. Defensively, his catch-and-throw ability continues to tick up, now posting pop times in the 1.86-1.94 range with well above-average arm strength out of the chute (T81 mph).

+ RHP Sawyer Matthews (Galesburg, 2029) is another underclass arm with immense upside moving forward. A long-levered 6-foot-2, 170-pounds, he shows a fluid operation down the mound with a clean arm. His fastball worked up to 78 mph, while flashing the ability to land a 66-69 mph curveball for strikes.

+ RHP Cooper Weyant (Metamora, 2027) is an uncommitted arm to know following the event. Standing at a long-levered 6-foot-2, 161-pounds with room to add strength in the future, he worked 82-84 mph with his fastball that flashed above-average carry through the zone (T20.1” IVB). He mixed in a curveball at 68-71 mph with depth and also showed a changeup at 75-76 mph with above-average arm-side movement, averaging over 18 inches of horizontal movement, and feel for the zone.

+ C Ashton Miner (Newman Central Catholic, 2027) is a physical uncommitted right-handed bat to know. His barrel stays in the zone, while working uphill and flashing jump off the barrel. He peaked at 100 mph off the bat, with a max batted distance of 357 feet. Defensively, he flashed quality cath-and-throw ability, with his top pop time registering at 2.08.

+ INF Gavin Price (St. Charles East, 2027) was one of the bigger winners from the event with his bat. A long-levered 6-foot-5, 189-pound right-handed hitter, he was on the barrel repeatedly; averaging 93 mph off the bat (T101 mph) with a max batted distance of 383 feet. His swing stays on-plane with line drive intent to the middle/pull-side.

+ INF Joey Lengle (Huntley, 2027) put together a quality all-around showing at the event. The left-handed hitter posted the top 60 time for the event, running a 6.87. He then had the firmest bullet on the infield for the event at 84 mph from across, pairing the arm with athletic actions on the dirt. He also flashed the ability to repeat and be on the barrel at times, peaking at 90 mph off the bat.

+ INF Brady Whorton (Carterville, 2029) is an underclassman to know moving forward. A loose-levered 6-foot, 161-pound left-handed hitter, he creates whip with the barrel, while flashing the ability to generate jump off the barrel (T92 mph EV). Defensively, he showed confident hands up the middle paired with an accurate arm across the diamond.
