The spring update is arguably the most important and most in depth update of the year. Our staff has taken in more than 240 games this season and during the course of that time, we have gathered evaluations, provided updated scout blogs, updated pitching velos, discussed players on High & Tight, and spent hundreds of hours observing and scouting thousands of players in the state of Virginia & DC. With all of that time put in, we also do a complete overhaul of the entire database of profiles within each class. With the 2028 class our staff has combed and crosschecked more than 1200 profiles in the state to try and be as thorough as possible. The full schedule for the week is as follows: Rankings Risers, New Faces, Top 50, Overall Class Update, and Case for #1.
Today we dive into a group of New Faces from the VA/DC Class of 2028. This is a group of players that enter the rankings in this update due to some of the in game impact that they have had over the course of the season. Take a look at video and notes on a small group of players that will make their way into the rankings this week.

Landon Anderson 1B / LHP / Manchester High, VA / 2028Anderson has been a two-way contributor for Manchester, and that has been a part of their success. He has put together quality outings on the mound and brings competitiveness. The fastball works in the low-eighties and mixes in a breaking ball. Offensively, he is an aggressive hitter that can use all parts of the field. It is more hit over power, but there is some strength in the frame to impact baseballs in the gap. It is a corner defensive profile that is offense first.

Nolan Deaver SS / RHP / Wilson Memorial High, VA / 2028A wiry athlete that provides some bounce in the infield. He has good pace and fundamental actions in the infield. A slightly above-average defender that profiles at second base long term. Offensively, he is a contact bat that uses the whole field with low line drives. He is an above-average runner that uses his speed defensively and on the base paths. Added strength will be key in his development, but the way he plays raises his game.

Nathan Duncan LHP / Miller School of Albemarle, VA / 2028A valuable piece to the rotation of the Mavericks this spring. He had quality outings against some of the better teams in the state this spring. The southpaw has an XL 6-foot-8, 200-pound frame that still has room to fill. The velocity fluctuates at times working mostly in the low-eighties, but can ramp into the mid-eighties at times. He shows two different breaking balls with the ability to land them both for strikes. There is a lack of a true out pitch but the ability to land multiple pitches for strikes helps the arsenal. This is a projection arm that creates some excitement for when the bulk is added to the frame and the velocity sees an increase.

Grant Goltry C / OF / Woodson High, VA / 2028Made quite the impression on our staff this spring, showing off the offensive ability and impact defensively. It is a compact, well put together frame that has some strength present. It is a quieter setup with simple movements. He shows some adjustability in the swing with most of the strength working to the pull side. He is a quiet receiver behind the plate with slightly above-average arm strength. He has made some strides and is shaping up as a solid all-around catching profile.

Mason Minor RHP / OF / Dominion Sports Collective, VA / 2028There is some arm talent with Minor that shows some intrigue down the road. He has shown a full arsenal this spring with a mid-eighties fastball that can creep into the upper eighties. He shows two different breaking balls and a changeup in the arsenal. It is a durable frame at 6-foot-2, 203-pounds that could tighten up a bit and add some bulk. There is some polishing that could be done for long-term development, but there is evident raw arm talent that gives him a chance to have success.

Clayton Moore RHP / OF / Greenbrier Christian Academy, VA / 2028Moore made a big splash in the 757 this spring as he made a significant jump and flashed some of the most electric stuff in the ‘28 class. Moore can run the fastball up to 92 and sits in the upper eighties and low 90’s at times. The fastball has plenty of life and can generate swings and misses in the zone. The slider flashes as a quality secondary pitch when he has a consistent feel. When the slider is dialed in, he creates uncomfortable swings and has a quality out pitch paired with the fastball. He is an easy mover on the mound that has some late intent on the back end of the delivery. The next step is cutting down the walks and not working as deep into counts. The arsenal has the stuff to generate outs in a hurry, and when the walks begin to cut down, then it will lead to more success. This is a projection arm that could have a serious impact when the polishing begins.

Jordan O'Brien OF / RHP / Benedictine College Preparatory, VA / 2028O’Brien is a wiry athlete that showed some intrigue on the mound for a young Benedictine team. It is a quick arm that has been up to 88 this spring and sits in the mid-eighties. He shows a quality breaking ball that he lands for strikes with good depth. He attacks the strike zone and is a competitor on the mound. While he is a low-mileage arm on the mound for him, there is intrigue as he continues to gain innings and polish on the mound. The athleticism and arm strength on the mound give him a chance to have success.

Jayce Suters 3B / SS / Broadway High School, VA / 2028There aren't too many players that are built with the physicality and athleticism of Suters. He has been an impact bat for Broadway that has a tendency to lose some baseballs over the fence. He has above-average bat speed and the ability to muscle baseballs for extra bases. While there is the ability to impact the baseball, there is some swing and miss to go with it, but that is the risk that you take with his power potential. Defensively it is a corner profile long term that has the athleticism and potential ability to play a corner outfield position.
