North Carolina Class of 2027: Summer Rankings Update

The North Carolina Class of 2027 enters a critical stretch in the recruiting cycle as college coaches and professional scouts begin turning their full attention toward one of the deeper classes in recent memory. With the high school season naming 8 State Champions this weekend, the summer evaluation period becomes the next major proving ground for players across the state.

Throughout the coming months, Prep Baseball scouts and recruiters will closely follow major summer events, including the NC/SC Border Battle, Program Invite tournaments, the Senior Future Games, and the Tobacco Road State Games. For many prospects, strong summer performances can quickly accelerate recruiting momentum as programs continue building future recruiting classes and scouts work to identify the next wave of high-end talent.

This latest update to the North Carolina Class of 2027 Rankings reflects the work done throughout the spring season by the Prep Baseball scouting staff, as live game evaluations helped provide further clarity to the class heading into a pivotal summer.

Inside the Rankings Update

The updated North Carolina Class of 2027 Rankings now expands to the Top 325 players in the state. This update incorporates extensive high school season coverage from the Prep Baseball scouting staff, who spent the spring evaluating players in live game environments across North Carolina.

Throughout the season, scouts gathered updated evaluations while tracking how tools translated into competitive action. The spring season provided valuable context for athleticism, in-game instincts, pitchability, defensive actions, offensive approach, and physical development. Combined with prior event evaluations and video review, the updated board gives a clearer snapshot of where the class currently stands entering the summer circuit.

As always, the rankings remain fluid. The upcoming summer calendar presents another major opportunity for movement as players compete in front of college coaches and professional evaluators against some of the top talent in the region.

Risers in the Rankings

Strong spring performances and continued development led to significant movement throughout the updated rankings. Several players used the high school season to elevate their profile and separate themselves with improved tools, physical gains, and in-game production.

Caleb Lynn — OF — Cleveland HS

Up to No. 11 from No. 16

Lynn continues to solidify himself as one of the premier athletes in the class. The left-handed hitter impacted the ball and the game at a high level throughout the spring while continuing to play with speed and confidence in all phases of the game. The offensive profile took a noticeable step forward as Lynn consistently handled quality pitching while maintaining athletic actions in the outfield. On the mound Lynn shined as well, allowing the advanced athleticism to shine as he attacked hitters. The UNC Wilmington commit will be followed as a dual prospect through the summer.

Connor Sousa — LHP — Apex Friendship HS

Up to No. 78 from No. 148

Sousa emerged this spring as one of the more intriguing left-handed arms in the state. The lean frame and developing physicality pair with a clean arm action and feel for the strike zone. Sousa impressed with improved fastball life and the ability to compete with multiple pitches, giving evaluators plenty to follow entering the summer.

Video Spotlight:

Sidney Dale — LHP — South Brunswick HS

Up to No. 96 from No. 162

Dale continued trending upward during the spring with a durable frame and repeatable delivery. The left-hander showed the ability to attack hitters with tempo and angle while competing effectively in-game. The breaking ball flashed as a potential out pitch in a couple of outings. The increased athleticism and strength took immediate effect in the pitch shape and quality.

Video Spotlight:

Brady Williamson — C — Cuthbertson HS

Up to No. 97 from No. 107

Williamson was a key cog in an offensive unit at Cuthbertson HS this spring. The projected impact of his power tool began to take hold as the right handed hitter’s production matched what scouts thought could be coming as he continued to mature and grow into his frame. A solid athlete, the raw analytic numbers are impressive. As he pairs the workouts with high-end game production, there will be interest, and an ability to compete early at the next level.

Video Spotlight:

Greyson Evans — OF — North Lincoln HS

Up to No. 143 from No. 237

North Lincoln is back in the mix for another State Championship in 2026. While the Knights have a deep pitching staff, it is the mix of talent in the box that creates havoc other teams have to deal with. This starts at the top of the order with Evans. Aggressive with strike zone discipline, Evans demonstrates a lot of different ways to get on base, setting the table for the offense. Direct and quick to the ball, Evans is setup to continue to make big strides as he continues to add strength to his frame.

New to the Rankings

Several new names enter the rankings after standout spring evaluations and continued development throughout the high school season. Each player showed traits that warranted inclusion as the board expanded to 325 players.

Witt McCammon

McCammon has been a name that has popped over the past couple of spring seasons. This spring, with Providence playing at a high level, our scouting staff was able to sit on McCammon multiple times to get a feel for his offensive and defensive abilities. The Campbell commit has a rangy frame that screams projection, while showing production against high-level competition. There is a lot to like now with the hint that he is just scratching the surface.

Video Spotlight:

Nolan Ellington — RHP — North Stanly HS

Athletes tend to get better as they continue to grow and mature. Ellington caught the attention of our scouting staff in relief in a non-conference game this spring. A very quick arm with solid spin metrics, the potential of what he could become jumped Ellington into the 2027 Rankings update.

Video Spotlight:

Drake Covington — LHP — Piedmont HS

Pitching in what may have been the toughest conference in the state, Covington held his own, rolling off a stretch of starts that caught the attention of our scouting staff. The left-hander has good feel for his arm side with an athletic arm stroke. A basketball players, the frame is still very young and is primed to add strength that will make an immediate impact on arrival.
