2026 Prep Baseball Minnesota Player of the Year: Connor Finn

MINNESOTA - Connor Finn's rise from intriguing project to one of the nation's top left-handed arms accelerated in July of 2025.

Representing Team Plains at the Senior Future Games in LakePoint, Georgia, Finn announced himself on the national stage. Across two innings, he struck out four of the six hitters he faced while working at 89-91 mph with a fastball that paired well with a fading changeup and a sharp slider. It was the type of outing that immediately changed how evaluators viewed the left-hander.

The climb started nearly a year earlier.

Finn first entered the Prep Baseball database at the 2024 Summer ID in Duluth. Standing 6-foot-3 with long levers and plenty of projection, the athleticism was obvious even if the polish was still coming. At the time, he pitched at 81-83 mph, but everything about the delivery and frame suggested there was significantly more in the tank.

That offseason proved to be a turning point.

By the 2025 Preseason All-State, Finn had jumped into the low 90s, topping at 91.1 mph while showing advanced east-west movement with both his fastball and changeup. The stuff had taken a significant leap, and so had the attention.

Not long after his Senior Future Games performance, Finn announced his commitment to Texas Tech.

The momentum continued into the winter. At Super 60 in Chicago, Finn left as the hardest-throwing left-handed pitcher at the event, putting himself squarely on the radar of professional scouts across the country.

Prep Baseball Vice President of Scouting Shooter Hunt noted that while the velocity grabbed attention, it was Finn's changeup that may have been even more impressive.

"[I]t was a high-spin changeup that stood out as the best secondary offering," wrote Hunt. "Still earlier in his preseason, Finn's secondary took enough shape to warrant close attention throughout the spring, and given the ease of the arm action, it is likely that, along with the velocity, those pitches tick up in a hurry in providing an earlier Day 2 look."

That evaluation proved prophetic. Finn continued sharpening his entire three-pitch mix, transforming from an intriguing follow into one of the notable draft prospects in the Upper Midwest.

While his national profile continued to grow, he still had unfinished business in Minnesota.

Fresh off helping Mahtomedi capture the 2025 Class AAA state championship, Finn returned as both the ace of the staff and a middle-of-the-order presence for a Zephyrs club with legitimate hopes of repeating.

He delivered exactly what was expected.

Armed with a polished three-pitch mix, Finn carved through opposing lineups, finishing the regular season 7-0 with a 1.06 ERA and 102 strikeouts in just 47 innings. Scouts checked in to watch the left-hander, who was now touching the mid-90s while overwhelming high school hitters.

Texas Tech remains the plan.

Whether that stays the plan will likely depend on what happens over the next few weeks, as professional organizations weigh just how early they're willing to call Finn's name.
