As the 2026 California high school season came to a close, plenty of standout performances filled scorecards across the state. Throughout the spring, there was no shortage of memorable individual outings in games captured firsthand by our Prep Baseball California staff during the season.
This ranking series counts down my top 10 single-game standout performances seen across the greater San Diego area during the 2026 spring season, highlighting some of the top individual efforts from around the region.
Continuing through the Top 5, Tanner Blackmon checks in at No. 4 after delivering one of the top pitching performances seen all spring on Opening Day of the CIF Southern Section season. In the first live look of the year, the senior left-hander went into Elsinore High School — the defending CIF-SS Division 5 champions — and tossed a complete-game shutout with 12 strikeouts under the lights in front of a packed crowd in Wildomar.
The longtime varsity standout showed noticeable progression from prior looks, maintaining an 84-85 mph fastball that touched 86 throughout the outing while commanding a full four-pitch mix. Blackmon mixed both a curveball and slider effectively while also showing feel for the changeup, consistently keeping hitters off balance with an athletic and easy operation on the mound. He also contributed offensively late in the game with an opposite-field single in his final at-bat.
The outing helped headline another strong season for Blackmon, who finished 2026 with a 3.04 ERA and 60 strikeouts across 46 innings pitched. A four-year varsity contributor for Murrieta Mesa High School, Blackmon closed out his career with a 2.71 ERA over 139.2 innings while also hitting .304 across his four varsity seasons.
Stay tuned as the countdown continues toward the top three single-game performances seen across the San Diego region this spring.
