Top Prospect Underclass Quick Hits- Two-Ways

Brayden Hatcher, 3B/RHP, 2028, Kell
Fresh off a state title with the Longhorns, Hatcher looked the part and then some to open the summer. Physicality litters the 6-foot-1, 191-pound frame with present two-way tools to project. Produced a max 99.0 and 95.3 exit velocities as he showed a heavy barrel in-zone with consistent line-drives during BP. Followed it up with a pair of good swings in gameplay and came through with a knock back into CF. Good balance in the load from a subtle move forward and creates excellent separation at the plate. Fluid hands and works short-to-long with present feel for the zone and bat-to-ball skills alike. Showed well in a clean inning of work on the mound as well. Longer operation with a stout lower half and gets down the mound well. Operates from a three-quarters slot with feel for all 3-pitches in-the-zone. Fastball lived 83-84 and curveball played well off it with late-depth out of the same tunnel at 68-70. Mixed in another breaking ball as well with a tighter slider at 77-78. The profile will only continue to grow and holds the upside to be a potential name to know come August 1st.

Bankston Terrell, RHP/OF, 2028, Prince Avenue Christian
Terrell showed out to be one of the top pitchers this afternoon with his strong FB that topped out at 88 with RPMs up to 2400. Terrell paired his FB up with a strong SL, CH, and CB. Terrell could manipulate his SL easily and having the RPMs of the SL being 2708 it was easily a swing and miss pitch for Terrell. During the simulated game Terrell would have really good control with all of his pitches and knew how to tunnel each pitch as well. He would finish the simulated game facing 5 batters and striking out 3 including 2 strikeouts looking.

Duggan Malone, SS/RHP, 2028, West Laurens
Malone had a very impressive performance in his game yesterday at GA Top Prospect games. Offensively, Malone went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI single. At the plate, Malone does great job separating the hips and the shoulders, and keeping a quiet head with a toe-tap load allows him to efficiently recognize spin and see the ball. Defensively, Malone showed smooth actions at short and his arm allows him to make plays deep in the six hole. On the mound, the rising Junior did a fantastic job making batters miss with a sharp breaker that he effortlessly found the zone with. Sharp fastball played off this breaker well, and Malone even broke out a knuckleball a couple of times. Great athlete and excited to see how Malone grows into his body and begins to really start standing out.

Cayden Mader, 2028, 3B/RHP, Grayson
Mader had a strong showcase at the PB Top Prospects. In his BP round he had a max EV of 96.3 mph. He then ran a 60 in 6.87 seconds. In the showcase game he had a oppo 2B which showed his full field power and who he can hit the ball wherever it is pitched. In the showcase game he also pitched where he would top 89 on his FB. To pair with his FB he threw strong CB and CH. He could tunnel each pitch very well off the FB which would constantly have batter off balance and have to take very defensive swings. Mader showed off all five tools offensively and fielding while also being a dominant pitcher that has really good feel for every pitch.

Wesley Thiry, RHP/3B, 2028, Norcross
At 6-foot-2 and 193 pounds Thiry had a great showing as a pitcher at top prospect. His fastball was 84 to 87 and felt comfortable with breaking balls early in the count through multiple batters. Works from a 3/4s arm slot and uses a high leg kick to move down the mound with a simple landing staying strong on his front foot. CB has great movement and high below at 76-79 along with SL at 77-80. Struck out multiple batters working both sides of the plate with each of his pitches. Strong two-way player as well as he scored a base knock RBI single in the game with a simple leg load. His physically imposing frame allows him to have a high ceiling to continue developing his tools.

Cole Roberts, RHP/3B, 2028, Walnut Grove
Great day at the plate and the mound for Cole. During BP the biggest thing we saw was consistency throughout. His swing stayed level and compact during swings which helped with him being able to rip the ball for line-drives at just about every AB during BP. During gameplay he went 1 for 2 and had a loud barrel and his swing stayed the same level and barreled one up the LCF gap for a base hit. When he pitched he filled up the zone and was able to show off his range of pitches, really was able to keep his slider tight while his CB was able to drop on a consistent basis. His FB worked well on the outside part of the zone and topped out at 83. His 5 foot 11 and 148 pound frame gives a lanky build with some room to add on some weight during this summer. Roberts has a chance to become a household name this summer as we continue the consistency of the bat with the filling up the zone.

Gabe Bowne, LHP/OF, 2028, Northgate
Bowne put together a standout performance across the board at the GA Top Prospect Games. The two-way outfielder showed a polished lefty swing, displaying quick hands with power upside. Throughout the BP round he consistently found the barrel, with his EV topping at 100.4 mph. At 6-foot-2 188-pounds, he also flashed a 6.58 60, along with a 21.1 mph top speed. After a quality performance at the plate, Bowne took the mound and continued to impress. The long lefty topped out at 85 mph on his fastball, showing effective offspeed to go along with it. He displayed the ability to set up tunnels with his whole arsenal, generating plenty of swing-and-miss late in at-bats working off the fastball. Look for Bowne to continue turning heads throughout the summer.

Matthew Zander, RHP/3B, 2028, Calhoun
Zander impressed at the plate and on the mound in Tuesday's Top Prospect Games. The 6-foot, 178-pound two-way player showed power at the plate, hitting 99 EV with strong hands, a direct path, and the ability to get the bat head out. On the mound, Zander continued to shine as he showcased a Fastball which sat 84-86 with some ASR and a Curveball which sat 70-72 sweeping across the zone. He showed great feel for the CB, throwing it for strikes in any count and generating chase while ahead in the count. Overall, a great showing for the rising junior.

Keegan Loadwick, RHP/1B, 2028, Lassiter
The 6-foot, 194-pound two-way had a great showing at Tuesday’s Top Prospect Games. At the plate, Loadwick showed off his effortless swing, keeping a flat path through the zone and generating some power to the pull side with his max EV coming in at 95.5. On the mound, he attacked hitters with an effective three pitch mix including a firm fastball sitting 83-86, a changeup sitting 70-73 with fade, and a splitter at 75. Loadwick mixed all of his pitches well to RHH and LHH generating a lot of chase with the changeup which played well off of his fastball. Look for Loadwick to keep developing across the next two seasons.

Andrew Akopov, OF/RHP, 2028, Mount Paran
Akopov showed off a variety of tools at the Underclass Top Prospect Games. He had a 10-yd split of 1.61 with the ability to steal bags and get good jumps in the OF. Akopov’s BP consisted of lacing liners UTM and backspinning LCF, RCF gappers to the wall maxing out at 99.6 EV. He showed off easy pop throughout the round averaging 90.6 EV. He understands his pure muscle frame at 6-foot-1, 198-pounds and has the ability to be an above average five-tool player. Akopov has an intriguing swing with fast hands from a tough slot using a lot of torque in his lower half to produce easy power in an advanced approach. The OF arm is potent with a max velo of 95 and carry to the plate. On the bump, FB sits 86-88 topping out at 89 with extra life in the zone and the ability to backspin the ball. CB plays at 74-76 with the ability to spin the ball above 2500+ rpm. Akopov’s ¾ arm slot also creates a tougher approach for hitters to see the ball from.

Isaiah Steward, 2B/RHP, 2028, Mt. Juliet (TN)
Steward brought impressive numbers to the Prospect Games while showing off a plethora of elite tools. He ran a 6.60 60 with an excellent 10-yd split of 1.61 and max speed of 21.3 showing off the basestealing prowess. He was very impressive in BP delivering LD after LD with good feel for the barrel and a max EV of 93.4. Steward showed off his plus plus arm on the INF by lighting up the radar gun at 92 with the highest INF velo of the day. He has good carry on the throws and shows the ability to throw from different angles making tough plays look easy. On the mound, he shows an easy and repeatable delivery sitting 81-83 and topping 84.7 with FB, 70-73 for SL, and 76-78 for CH working the bottom of the zone. Steward is only 5-foot-8, 145-pounds with plenty of room to grow into the frame and will be a very exciting player to keep an eye on.
