The 2026 high school baseball season is underway and, as usual, excitement is present throughout Iowa. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across the Hawkeye State.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Cedar Rapids or Carroll at the IHSAA state tournaments, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to shine a spotlight on all teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Iowa.

NOTES

+ Valley’s Trent Grevengoed was 2 for 3 with a single, double, walk, 2 RBI’s, 1 run and 2 stolen bases. He also threw 2 innings allowed 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks and struck out 4.

+ Indianola’s George Blake threw 7 innings gave up 2 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks and had 9 strikeouts.

+ Indianola’s Bo Blake was 3 for 4 with 2 singles, 1 double, 1 RBI, 2 runs and a stolen base.

+ Johnston’s Maxim Mincks threw 7 innings allowed 4 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, 1 hit by pitch, and struck out 4.

+ Southeast Polk’s Alex Williams threw 5.2 innings gave up 4 hits, 4 runs, 6 walks, 1 hit by pitch,  and had 8 strikeouts. He also delivered the go ahead RBI single in the 11th inning to eventually win the game.

+ Pleasant Valley’s Lincoln Dalton threw 7.2 innings allowed 1 hit, 0 runs, 1 walk and had 13 strikeouts. 

+ Pleasant Valley’s Jackson O’Melia had a double and a walk off RBI single in the 10th inning. 

+ Iowa City Liberty’s Evan Schmierer went 2 for 3 with 1 single, 1 triple, 1 walk, 4 RBI’s and scored 2 runs.

+ Sioux City East’s Callan Koch was 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI’s.

+ Waukee’s Brayden Moore threw 7 innings, allowed 3 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and struck out 14.

+ Knoxville’s Kyler Glifford threw 7 innings gave up 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks and had 10 strikeouts.

+ Carlisle’s Carter Berg went 3 for 3 with a single, 2 home runs, a hit by pitch, 2 RBI’s and scored 3 runs.

+ Western Dubuque’s Hayden Kluesner was 1 for 3 with a single, sac fly, 3 RBI’s and scored 1 run. He also threw 2 innings gave up 1 hit, 0 runs, 2 walks, 1 hit by pitch and had 5 strikeouts.

+ Dubuque Wahlert’s Noah Krapfl went 3 for 4 with a single, double, triple, 2 RBI’s and 3 runs.

+ MOC-Floyd Valley’s Brooks McCarty threw 5.1 innings allowed 2 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, 2 hit by pitches and struck out 7. He also was 1 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI’s.

+ North Polk’s Jack Spieker went 1 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI’s.

+ Davenport Assumption’s Nolan Dittmer went 3 for 3 with 2 singles, 1 home run, 2 walks, 2 RBI’s and 2 runs.

+ Cedar Rapids Xavier’s Andrew Renner was 3 for 3 with 2 singles, 1 double and 4 RBI’s.
