North Carolina Class of 2029: Rankings Update

With the completion of the 2026 high school season, Prep Baseball North Carolina is excited to release another update to the Class of 2029 Rankings, expanding the list from the Top 50 to the Top 75 players in the state.

As with every young class, it is important to remember that these rankings remain in their infancy. The Class of 2029 is still developing physically and emotionally, and player evaluations continue to evolve with each new look. The spring season provided our staff with valuable opportunities to evaluate players in game settings, helping refine player grades and identify emerging talent throughout North Carolina.

This update reflects the work of our scouting staff during the 2026 high school season. Live game coverage, practices, workouts, and continued video review all contributed to adjustments throughout the board. While movement has already begun to occur, we anticipate even more change ahead as players enter a busy summer schedule filled with opportunities to improve their profiles and compete against top talent from around the region.

With the addition of 25 new players, the depth of the class continues to become clearer. Expect continued movement throughout the summer as new evaluations, data, and performances shape future releases.

Risers in the Rankings

Several players used strong performances throughout the spring to elevate their standing inside the Class of 2029 rankings. These prospects showed continued development and impressed our staff with both their present tools and long-term upside.

Ryder Sheffield | INF | North Stanly HS

Sheffield was a key contributor to Team NC at the 2025 Junior Future Games. Added strength made immediate impacts at the high school level as Sheffield was a key cog in the North Stanly lineup, playing the infield and outfield. As Sheffield has continued to develop, the quickness has continued to play at a very high level. Sheffield is scheduled to be with Team NC at the East Coast Super SO Games as well as the Tobacco Road State Games.

Noah Rumley | LHP | Revolution Academy

The physical lefty impressed at the GBC Scout Day in the preseason. As his progress was followed during the spring, he showed an ability to attack the strike zone and dominate the competition on his schedule. Rumley’s frame screams projection. The arm is clean and quick. We are excited to follow his progress into the summer season.

Calvin Madenspacher | OF | Clayton HS

Very highly regarded coming into his first high school spring season, Madenspacher confirmed many of the reports as our scouting staff was able to catch him in live game action. A good athlete, there is high level barrel to ball feel with solid strike zone knowledge. As he continues fill out, the advanced quickness will remain a big tool in his arsenal.
