Top Prospect Underclass Quick Hits- Outfielders
Cal Pearson, OF, 2028, Pope
The Pope outfielder put together a breakout sophomore campaign this spring and carried it over into the summer circuit. Tons of athleticism litters the lean 6-foot-2, 177-pound frame with still so much more to project. Started the day by clocking at a 6.74 60 time with ability to reach top end speed quickly (20.7 max run speed). Simply lived on the barrel in an explosive round with a 100 % hard-hit percentage as he posted a max 100.7 and an average 97.6 exit velocities. Stays simple with balance through impact and minimal wasted effort in a well-connected RH cut. Works from a steep path while creating some length in-zone with present hand/bat speed in a direct stroke. Line-drive oriented approach and worked up-the-middle with ease while keeping the barrel on-plane. Strong actions in the outfield with good body control, solid footwork & arm strength present as he finished the round with an 86 outfield velo. It’s a well-rounded profile that is only going to continue to grow and a huge summer campaign appears to be on tap.

Brooks DeRosa, OF, North Gwinnett
A stellar year in ‘26 continued for DeRosa with another strong showing on Tuesday. Athletic 6-foot-0, 165-pounds that continues to add strength and present tools to project. Opened the day by running a 6.74 60. Shows a quality first step (1.60 10-yd.) and can reach top speed quickly (20.5). Consistent barrels throughout his round as he finished with a max 96.1 and an average 90.4 exit velocities. Followed the impressive BP round with really good swings in gameplay including a standup double into deep left-field. Loose, active hands pre-pitch and is consistently on-time with good balance in a slight leg lift load. Works from a compact path with impressive hands in-zone and feel to manipulate the barrel while showing an innate ability to rotate. Barrel feel and accuracy stands out in each setting with high-level bat-to-ball skills in a mature all-fields approach. Profiles across the grass with excellent routes to the ball and arm strength present. Finished the round with an outfield velo of 85. DeRosa is one to buy stock in now as he has steadily made gains across the board and big-league bloodlines that only strengthen the profile.
2028 OF Brooks DeRosa hammers this into deep LF for the standup 2B.

Jude Smith, OF, Holy Innocents
Smith looked very impressive during game-play and BP. Simple but effective swing, just a simple toe-tap load when hitting the ball. Very heavy pull side hitter with his highest EV being 95. The 6-foot-1 and 165 is a great athlete as well running a 6.6 60 yard dash, also showing his speed on the bags as well. Knows how to battle in the box when down in the count. Showed that multiple times when in the game yesterday. As he continues into this season he looks to continue to make big strides and become a house-hold name as he competes this summer.

Junwoo Jang, OF, 2028, North Gwinnett
Jang looks to take his impressive Sophomore year with him this summer as his bat has continued to grow. Jang stands with a very strong base at 5-foot-11 and 210-pounds with clear strength. His load and cut synch up well and fire in a singular motion. His EVs lived in the mid to upper 90s and he ran the gun up to 99EV. From the OF, the arm showed good strength as he reached 86 on his pulldowns. The feel for the barrel and ability to get his strength behind hits paired with a reliable arm in the OF is what profiles his high level game. |

In the live game session, Ledger drove the first pitch of the game to RF for a lead-off single. Defensively, Jones showed great actions in the outfield, good routes, and reads that put him in the right spot to make a play on both fly and ground balls. Good footwork through the baseball and smooth, efficient transfers allow him to get the ball out quickly and accurately. Jones is a great athlete, running a 6.83 60yd dash with a 3.8 30yd split. Ledger Jones will be exciting to follow as he looks to carry his success into the summer.

He has a leg lift to shift his weight to his front side, then halting his body on the front side to remain behind the ball and limit those ugly out-in-front swings. It’s a very athletic move and athletic swing that generates high-end bat speed and top-end EVs. Overall, Hemphill had a great day at the Top Prospect Games, continuing to show why he is a top ranked player in the state and country.

Brayden Couch, OF, 2029, Cherokee Bluff
6-foot-0, 162 pound frame that stood out with a very simple and fluid swing throughout the day. A lefty that showed great bat to ball skills at BP and by grabbing a barrel knock to the opposite field on an elevated pitch during the game. Stays back on the ball with a simple 6 inch leg lift gets great extension through the ball while also keeping a consistent level barrel path. Showed off some situational awareness today as well by stealing 2nd base uncontested after recognizing a pattern by the pitcher and catcher. Couch also showed off impressive tools with a 6.87-60 and looked comfortable in the outfield. Has great room to develop significant tools and the diamond on top of being a student of the game.
